Looking online at the reaction to the Almiron red card. Honestly, it’s fudging incredible.

For what it’s worth, I think FIFA have made the right call with the rule. 100%.

The reaction sums up the reason the world is so polarised. People inventing their own facts.

“Ah poor snowflake. Did Almiron say some hurty words”

“Be helpful if FIFA had told them the rules beforehand”

“I’ve seen loads of players do that this World Cup and none were sent off”

“It’s a stupid rule. Game”s gone”

“He’s probably covered his mouth for some other reason and the Turks have taken advantage of it”

It’s mad the amount of misinformed nonsense, made up facts and agendas that get pursued unchallenged.

I think it's extremely difficult dealing with men with pre-school behaviour problems and it's going to take time to educate these poor individuals who need constant instructions to play a game they train daily to do, it's like potty training messy at times and mistakes will be made but worth it in the long run.

I’ve missed that one, what’s the rule about covering your mouth?
It's in a situation where one player is "having words" with an opposition player. If he covers his mouth while doing so, the ref can decide to issue a red card. I don't think it's automatic, rather it's at the ref's discretion based on the circumstances. The aim I believe is to prevent it being used as a way to to mask racist etc. comments or to avoid such accusations.

Thanks.

I think that’s insane.

I’d be claiming racism every time any player near me put their hands anywhere near their mouth, it’s so open to abuse.

The commentators were talking about covering your mouth in a “confrontational setting” today, which I think makes a lot of sense. Subjective, possibly, but with common sense I think ‘confrontational’ is easy enough to spot.

For players, it’s a pretty easy law to abide by and might help prevent a little bit of the racist nonsense.

Anything relating to individual players conduct/behaviour will not be easy to implement, many players lack self control or feel rules don't apply to them and they will soon find a way to evade punishment.

Allowing players to cover their mouths in that situation is open to much worse abuse.

Honestly, I can’t see any reason in a confrontational situation why a player would need to cover their mouth while saying something to an opponent unless they’re saying something they shouldnt.
