Signing players in January is the new thing. No pressure on them performing right away, they get a full preseason in the summer, and bang, another Lucas Moura. :D

Frenkie would be amazing, incredible player. He's going to barca though, probably.
 
Joel Asoro has revealed he spurned the chance to join Tottenham this summer in favour of a move to Swansea.

The 19-year-old forward found himself in high demand this summer after confirming he would leave Sunderland upon their relegation to League 1, with a host of clubs scrambling for his signature.

Our story back in July revealed both Derby and Arsenal were looking to land him, but the Swede has now confirmed it was Tottenham who came closest to landing him, prior to his move to Liberty Stadium.

Explaining, however, why he chose not to move to the Premier League giants and instead move into the Championship, the teenager told Swedish newspaper Sportbladet: “We sat talking to Tottenham and they said they could not promise anything about playing time.”

Feeling his career could be hindered if he played second fiddle to the likes of Harry Kane and Son-min Heung, Asoro continued: “Then I felt I could not make that choice. If I want to compete seriously while playing for the under-21 national team, I need to play in my club team.”

Asoro has featured three times for the Swans under new manager Graham Potter but is yet to open his account for the club.

There is something quite refreshing and honest about this. Don't know what wages etc were offered by us or Swansea but good to see a young kid take his career seriously vs (potentially) status and wages.

i think spurs is a good bet, swansea is in danger of going down, not sure if it will help his career
 
Part of me thinks "Where is his faith he can prove himself?" and part of me respects that he wants to play and grow.

Swansea are a developing team, not a bad shout for promotion in the next couple of years, might not be a bad career move for him.
 
It also highlights our predicament when it comes to signing high quality players whom we can't guarantee game time.

We have a crazy strong squad and we run a meritocracy, which is fantastic as it encourages players of a certain mental fortitude to join.

However it clearly has trade-offs too.

Was told today we have approached Declan rice about signing for us on a bosman next summer. Person who told me is not prone to flimflam either.
