The lack of physicality is a concern for me. We look lightweight and easily bullied. In the first three games I've seen too many examples of opposition players busting through tackles, knocking us off the ball or it taking two or three of our players to try to dispossess the opposition. I think we've bought technically good footballers but I don't see many, particularly in midfield who are going to get 'stuck in'. I don't think that's RDZ's style but it seems to be a key part of the modern game.

You need to understand my comments more though. What actually happens if you do follow the winning clubs model and mostly add 1 quality player in January and then 2 or 3 each summer? What does your squad look like after 3 or 4 years of sticking relentlessly to that strategy whilst integrating some youngsters to manage gaps?

Well Pep only ever did that and he won a treble that included the CL with 5 or 6 U21's in his squad. Liverpool only did things this way and mostly still do. Arsenal have just broken into that next layer by doing the same.

My only hope is that this manager prevails and sticks around as the next one will want another project restart and churn the squad. We've now done the major overhaul and every subsequent window under RDZ should now follow my model, in my opinion.

How is it revisionism when he said it live right there at the time? You think he was talking about the effect of the injury pile up and not taking that into account but he didn't say that. That's purely your assumption, it's more likely he was including the likes of Kulu in his original 10,11,12 players comment.

For it to really be revisionism he would have had to have had this transfer summer as it has been and then justified the massive changes and player churn with a statement and about how many players actually matched his requirements.

54 in and out is crazy work

- I'd say we have upgraded our midfield and wide areas
- Defense is arguably weaker, GK to be seen.

We have culled the squad and pushed on a lot of players.

Still think the next two windows will have a lot of work
- RB light
- 10 position if Maddison/Xavi/Deki don't stake the right claim
- New CF (Richi will probably go in January for a minimum fee
- Could see us looking to add a physical player in next summer.

Over to the manager now

For me, that part of the interview was when he spoke about his players who had just achieved 11 points form 7 games and that was enough to stay up. He then went to the "10, 11 or 12" comment straight after. So I'm not sure how he could have spoken about any player's ability or mentality that he hadn't had chance to work with yet. That seemed to be the big debate at the time.

It also makes sense if you look at it numerically.

Kinsky, Austin, Porro, Davies, VDV, Udogie, Bents, Gray, Bergval, Gallagher, Maddison, Simons, Tel, Kudus, Kulu, Odobert, Solanke, Richi have all remained at the club. That's 18 and RDZ has spoken highly of some that have left implying they were good enough as well e.g. Spence. Thinking back, RDZ clearly didn't have access to some of these guys through injuries and still doesn't in a couple of cases. He has still spoken highly of guys like Simons though.

So our manager's 10,11,12 numbers just don't stack up unless you factor in the injuries.

Looks like Richarlison may go now.

I just can’t agree with the defense getting weaker. We had the worst defense 16th & 17th worst defense the past 2 seasons. Romero & Spence played on a lot of those games as did Vicario.

Well I don't think when someone says 10, 11, 12 they are being totally accurate with their numbers. He was obviously speaking generally. Your list is a strange one as you've included players we couldn't sell even he wanted to due to their inured status along with the likes of Austin, someone who is just here for the fun of it. Even Richy is on your list and we know for certain he was fine with him moving on.

I'll be honest I think you're being a little naive. He's the coach of the club, he knows he can't replace every single player so there's no benefit to hit castigating individuals publicly. When asked he's always likely to say something positive about every player but the proof is actually in the pudding which was the transfer window we just experience along with how many of the existing players actually get significant minutes this coming season.

As a unit perhaps, individually no question for me, weaker

- Romero is a better player than JPVH
- Danso is a better backup than Tosin
- Spence is a better FB than Gray
- Vicario is still more proven than Kinsky
- Add in the obvious gap in aerial ability and physicality.

RDZ cut down the goals conceded in last 7 games of season by about 50% (with those bad defense players), it's now (again, super small, irrelevant sample size) swung back to 5 goals conceded in first two games.

To be fair, I've always felt lots of teams had crappier individual defenders but were managing better as a unit, so to be seen (think Leeds conceded less than us with Rodon as an ever present)
