Transfer thread

He had a couple of good patches at Leeds too.
Would be a useful impact player from the bench.

If there are doubts about Odobert or Kulu being able to be first team ready, then he'd be ok as a cheap signing.
Kulu I think will come back and play centrally and we'll probably see him and Madders rotate a lot to manage their fitness, with Moore also being in that mix. (I wouldn't expect to see Xavi until February)
That leaves Kudus as a starter wide player. Tel as on on the cusp starter. Odobert as from the bench.
We should be looking to sign a starter level wide player, but if Odobert isn't fit then Summerville wouldn't be terrible. His pace and direct running suit RDZ quite well.
I think that just stockpiles loads of players who are similar TBH.

I would taking Tel and Odebert as the depth and look for much better

I don't want a player who is comparable to Tel there's no point in that. The player we bring in for the left should be a clear upgrade otherwise we are wasting our time and money.

Wharton and Ndiaye would be amazing.

Who would be our third and final signing of the summer?

Apologies, I forgot for a minute that we're Spurs. We need at least 5 more signings and no academy promotions to make sure we stay average.:tearsofjoy:
No to Ndiaye. hes more exciting but similar production to what we have

Unless you're Manbricky or Chelsea, you can't have 'differential' players in every position so, even in the best case scenario, we will have to make choices and pray that our best players don't get injured. Sometimes, it's worth buying a 'water-carrier' type of player if it means signing a bigger talent elsewhere.

To put it differently, it's (also) about finding players who complement each other in and off the pitch. That's why squad building is such a difficult craft. If it was just about identifying quality players, everyone and their dog could do it. But you have to factor in a lot of elements and go for what's look like the best (or more likely to succeed) option.
Unless you're not buying anyone - in which case, there's no risk involved.

There’s risk involved in clubs not buying player(s) too…as we can attest to.

Linked today to Antonio Vergara from Napoli. He has had a Ryan Mason style arc to his Napoli career where he went on a lot of loans to Seria B/C and finally broke into the 1st team at 22 this season. Plays primarily as the right Attacking Mid in the Conte system. He is not outright rapid but he’s very quick with the ball at his feet. Lethal left foot.
He's good to watch, tenacious and keeps attacking. Just what we need, some an attacking force with the chaos factor

Seems a lot of noise re Vergara, not sure he's the right level though
Well we are 17th two years in a row!

Guess it depends on our goals next season. With so many clubs changing managers I think we should be challenging for CL places.

Oh how are going to afford higher wages that Vinai promised ?

I think we should be going for Alex Scott. Prem proven, 22, from the terraces of WHL, a genuine midfield talent. I see the argument for Hackney, however if we are looking at upping our transfer game, Scott is the way to go. I think his injury record is better than Wharton's? And look, Wharton would be great too, but I love the fact Scott is 100% COYS. I want that in the heart of our side if possible.

Scott and Wharton play very different roles though
Scott plays that role that Bergvall and Gallagher do
I really really like him and said we should have gone for him when he was at Bristol

Wharton is exactly what we need though… passing tempo controller like Carrick

I love Bergvall and felt he was a future leader, but it is going to be interesting to see if DeZerbi wants him or if he designates him as a player we can sell/get good money for and then turn around and buy someone like Scott who is very much ready now. One thing we don't know is what system DeZerbi will end up wanting to deploy here.
Yes, I remember also thinking we missed a big trick when he was at Bristol. I think his press resistency makes him very versatile as to what he can do.
Wharton is another I was really disappointed we didn't get when he was at Blackburn; we sniffed and sniffed but never took the plunge.

A dream midfield for me would be…

Wharton, Gray, Scott …. Sounds like a group of explorers

But all 3 are technically strong and play heads up football

Alternatives who we would get for the Wharton role are Tyler Morton who is doing great in France and Hackney (not the sense stylistically)

We do have Scott like players here already

I would love the club to be brave and maybe seek Bergvall and Sarr and use that to find scott. Sure that will get detractors and Sarr and Bergvall and great players but smart selling is something that the very best do…. And we don’t
