Like I said previously if you achieved the criteria to qualify for both, the CWC trumped Uefa - that shows what the order was objectively. You also had to win something in order to qualify for the CWC making it harder to achieve - this is a time when the FA Cup was seen as almost as big a prize as the league.

What the point? We know it will go brick, he will get sacked and its fudged up our season again. We would then be in the hunt for a new manager half way through the season and will have to make do with a stop gap. We need to make decisions with the head not the heart.

I was with my dad at the 1984 final and this year my nephew was there (not exactly with me but we caught up before and after) so it still feels to me like a bit of family continuity. So important to keep those ties going.

He wasn’t. We could swap 3 players in/out after the group stage. Forster, Dragusin & Werner dropped out. Tel, Spence & Danso came in.

Weirdly there were teams that are in the CL next season that just did that too
Frankfurt for one and Bodo likely too
But I agree we wouldn’t be able to do that against PSG… but the team will be different as and when we play them anyway
