Thomas Frank - Head Coach

He really was
He just knew where to be in both halves of the pitch
He was also telling players where to be too, to create the press and keep them penned in
Him, Bergvall and xavi don't give a fudge who you are, they will tell you what to do, it's funny watching the confidence they have in themselves that they can boss around senior professionals.
Bloody love it.

Watched the Slavia presser, and again, found myself really, really wanting him to use Saturday as a lift-off in terms of intent and deployment of the players he has at hand, because he does consistently appear to be a really decent guy...I'd love to see it all succeed, and I hope upon hope he can 'scale-up'/kick-on whatever phrase you want to use.
I got some real evidence on Saturday, so I am going to believe...because what's the point otherwise?!!!

We’re okaying a team who are smashing their league but in CL are way out of their level
It’s an ideal game for Frank to set us up to impose ourselves on them
And I can’t watch it which can be a good luck charm too

Will probably need to do some rotation, but we have players we can rotate in that can play with that intent. Bergvall and Odobert in particular for me.

No easy games and all that, but really a game where we should be able to impose ourselves and play some good attacking football building on what we saw against Brentford.

Much more attacking intent and a more attacking lineup again. More tactical flexibility too. Spence inverting, Gray often as the deepest midfielder in buildup rather than Palhina. Pushing both full backs up at times. More ambitious passing all around really.

Hope to see more of this in tougher games too. May struggle to execute, but this is what we have to get better at to keep improving imo.

I heard some people moaning "Frank doesn't seem to know his best eleven"

But that is brilliant news, that is what we are striving for, 2 or 3 players that are equally as good in each position.

Competition for places.

E.g. if everyone was fit and you aren't sure whether to play Xavi or Deki or Maddison, that is FANTASTIC news.

We need to have depth to cover fatigue and avoid injuries.

I don't want Frank to "know his best eleven", I want us to rotate with real ease.

For instance, when Frank set up with both Palhinha and Bentancur, we didn't really have a replacement like for like, whereas playing with just one of them means the other can come on at 65 minutes for the last half hour and see the game out, saving their legs for the hectic schedule.

Ditto if you are unsure whether to play Gray, Sarr or Bergvall, if we can get them all playing to a similar level, that is called OPTIONS and that is what we need. I don't want it to be flippin obvious that Gray should always play, I want them all to be playing to the same standard.

Ditto in every position. Pick the guy that is in form and has fresh legs.

DM = Bentancur or Palhinha
CM = Gray or Sarr or Bergvall
AM = Xavi or Deki or Madders

LW = Richie or Tel or Odobert
ST = Muani or Solanke
RW = Kudus or (Johnson)

LB = Udogie or (newbie)
RB = Porro or Spence

CB = get really strong options for Romero and VdV e.g. Danso / Hincapie levels.

You get the idea.

Manager working to find out his best side.....good news

Agreed.

How he got to this point is probably unimportant, albeit I think he said something very, very honest in a recent presser. Paraphrasing, he basically said that although he knew the difference in a club our size v Brentford, it was impossible to REALLY know until he'd lived it for a bit. I took it to mean that he also now sees that our club requires a certain approach to the game as well as everything else (obviously that is an assumption). All I have ever wanted to see from him is whether he can grow in this respect, as I think it is supremely important. It appears he might well be able to. Which is great. Here's hoping it continues.
