*** The official 2025/26 Premier League thread ***

I don't really like many football podcasts unless they are good speaking ex pros who give insights into their time and things that happen in the background. Been seeing a few of these clips pop up now and then and its so interesting to hear about players refusing to play etc, we as fans think the decisions by managers are so easy or logical, rarely do I think we know as much as we all think we do in what happens behind closed doors

Thought that podcast with Hodgson was excellent. What a great man he is. Sure, he had his failures at an exceptionally high level but his career was outstanding and he absolutely takes responsibility for any failures he had. No excuses. He was also very, very insightful and articulate. Roy can be a bit abrasive but he's a very, very knowledgeable man. Really enjoyed listening to him.

That podcast is a strange one. I like it but McCarthy and Pulis do get on my nerves a bit when they talk about "how much better it was in my day", "and they call us dinosaurs", "x, y and z aren't football people". It's a good podcast though IMO.

Yeh I prefer the people they interview than them per say, although I think Pulis is better out the two

This has been a bit of an eye opener for me with McCarthy. As everyone will be aware, the Keane/McCarthy feud in 2002 literally split the country over here and there are still metaphorical wounds from it today.

At the time and even now, I was staunchly on Mick’s side. What’s become apparent for me listening to McCarthy on this podcast is that he’s a bloody minded, tough individual and that approach brought him success as a player and a manager. He probably got close to the most out of his ability. However, he doesn’t come across as particularly intelligent.

On the other hand, Roy Keane is a very intelligent and articulate man. He can be a 24 carat clam but he’s very bright. That calls into question McCarthy’s judgement in manufacturing an argument with Keane in front of the squad because, although Mick would hold all the cards ultimately as the manager, there will only ever be one winner in an actual argument between Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy. And it isn’t Mick.

I always felt Keane wanted the best for Ireland and fell on his sword because you are never going to win the battle with a manager at the WC. Reading the details he had a fair point and given their run at that WC, they might have got close to winning it with Keane

I do listen to that podcast, it is enjoyable, but they do embarrass themselves at times.

Timmeh was on recently and confirmed what a muppet he is, gloating about how he ignored medical advice.
