The Goon Thread - Officially Second In A One Horse Race

Dwayne Dibbly deciding he is off and has travelled without permission to Barcelona ahead of a potential loan move today
Be so funny if it falls through

Amazing how they can spin letting a £60m signing a few years ago leave on a free transfer as a £25m saving in wages! I’d imagine any “saving” in wages is completely wiped out by the write off in book value?

When did he sign the new contract? The way amortisation works is the value is spread over the contract. So signed for £60m on a 5 year contract his amortisation is £12m a season. If in his 3rd season he signs a new contract, his value would be £36m split over the length of the new contract (£24m would have gone in his first 2 seasons).

They'd have lost some of his book value but maybe not that much. Doesn't really matter though. They are good for ffp and don't have shareholders to answer to really.

Apparently he was willing to take a serious reduction in his wages to get this deal done.

It leaves Arsenal with no return for their hefty investments in transfer fees and wages. And no replacement. Clearly aiming to keep the squad lean so they can beef up for next season's Conference League.

It would be really amusing if they suffered loads of injuries after doing the below

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's Deadline Day departure to Barcelona capped a bizarre transfer window for Arsenal in which they cleared the decks without bringing in a single replacement.

Aubameyang became the sixth member of the first-team squad to leave either on loan or permanently, the striker following Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Folarin Balogun, Sead Kolasinac, Pablo Mari and Calum Chambers through the exit door.

According to various media outlets, Arsenal have done a great job clearing the decks before the summer window so Arteta can rebuild them in his image while we have a lot of work to do to prevent Conte from walking out.

Merson was the best. Asked about each teams business hit or miss. Arsenal a hit cause they got rid of aboomerang. Us and Saudi Sportswashing Machine both misses???

Tried to do a Dele !!
Difference is this mug has done nothing but mug them off royally they have lost £25m to let him go too

How come they loaned out Maitland Niles, wasn't he supposed to be decent at one point?

Edit, wiki says this, interesting fall from grace

Maitland-Niles started the 2020 FA Community Shield on 29 August, taking and scoring the second penalty in a penalty shoot-out win against Liverpool after the match ended 1–1.[37] In the FA Community Shield, Maitland-Niles was awarded the man of the match.[38] Maitland-Niles later struggled to secure a place in Mikel Arteta's first team, with interest coming from West Brom and Southampton to sign on loan.[39][40]

2021–present: Loans to West Brom and Roma[edit]
On 1 February 2021, Maitland-Niles joined fellow Premier League club West Bromwich Albion on a loan deal until the end of the season.[41] He made his debut in a 0–2 defeat to Tottenham in the Premier League on 7 February.[42]

During the summer of 2021, Maitland-Niles was linked with a move away from Arsenal, with Everton reportedly interested in signing him on loan.[43] The potential move fell through however, and on 30 August 2021, Maitland-Niles publicly expressed his desire to leave the club via social media, stating that he wished to go where he was "wanted" and where he was going to play.[44]

On 8 January 2022, Maitland-Niles joined Serie A club Roma on a loan deal until the end of the season.[5][6]

Just another in the long line of overrated Arsenal “kids” along with Hoyte, Gibbs, Frimpong, Chambers (they bought him but still), Iwobi, El Neny, etc. All get hyped up soo much.
