Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Too many?

We've only been buying replacements so far
(Lloris for Friedel)
Verts for King
Dembele for Modric
Sigg for VdV
(Ade for Ade)

Don't forget we got rid of Corluka, Krancjar, Pienaar plus maybe getting rid of Thudd, Jenas, Dos Santos, Bentley... that is a LOT of midfielders to get rid of so we are bare bones I tell thee, bare bones!!!

Who would Moutinho be a replacement for? I see Naughton as replacement for Corluka, potentially Sigurdsson as the replacement for Kranjcar (could count Moutinho as a replacement for VDV), Livermore is more than a Jenas replacement.

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Anyone think AVB has a plan to play Bale at LB and play This willy fella left side forward. Imho bale is not a forward and would be more useful attacking from deep and owning the wing.

I was thinking that earlier - sounds plausible considering BAE's usual exploits

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

5.5m for Corluka, 5.5m for Kranjkar, 4.5m for Piennar, 33m for Modric =48.5m
6m for Sig, 9m for Verts, 15m for Dembele, 5m for Ade=35m
Still more to spend just to make it a 'net spend'...
Moutinho to come in and Hugo Lloris and be happy. AVB will mainly play a 4-2-3-1 formation this year with 2 full backs who push forward and 2 defensive midfielders. The next 3 are attacking midfielders and a striker up top... We will be properly covered in all positions..... Come On You Spurs!!!!!!!!!!

Pedro Pinto has no reason to come out with flimflam either. He is very connected in Portugal and isn't in the rumour whoring business at all.

Totally agree, not one of those who would post this for sake of it. Seems very sure too.

Fiorentina[/B said:
"ACF Fiorentina announce that the transfer for Dimitar Berbatov definitively collapsed after an agreement with Manchester United had been concluded (with shared exchange of contracts, the first instalment paid and the financial guarantees for the second instalment ratified) and after reaching a verbal agreement with the player over his contract," read a club statement.

"During today the English club had allowed their player the written permission to come to Florence for a medical and to sign his contract.

"The player got on the flight with his agent and on tickets paid for by Fiorentina. He never arrived in Florence.

"This was down to outlandish and arrogant behaviour of other clubs, who have nothing to do with fair play and sporting ethics that go even beyond the confines of fairness.

"As for the player, apart from his characteristics and his value on the field, at this stage we are happy he didn't come to Fiorentina. He did not deserve our city, to wear our jersey or the values that represent it."

How strange, that does sound like the reliable, responsible and honourable Dimitar Berbatov we knew at Spurs? The taco.

Bassong was around £4m too.

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

Im not considering the Porto set up aside from it being a starting thought to compare to (which is more important IMO) what he has done with us so far.

So far WE are looking like a 4231 with a midfield base being a DM and one Box to box, an AM and wide players pushing inside. Given we have one forward the AM has a responsibility to support and offer foal threat.

Jamming Sigurdsson, Sandro, Dembele, Moutinho, VDV, Bale, Lennon into a midfield is simply not feasable - and these are not players willing to be bench warmers IMO.

Looking at Porto, apparently AVB didnt rotate a lot. It was a concern I had when looking into him months ago.

If we have a set up of

..............DM....CM
..................AM
......RW...................LW
..................ST

We are looking at

..........Parker..........Dembele
..........Sandro........Moutinho
..........Livermore
....................VDV
....................Sigurdsson
Lennon....................................Bale
......................Adebayor

Putting VDV, Sigurdsson or Dembele in the wing forward roles might be serviceable but it is not playing to any of these players strengths and if the intention was this all along - compared to just buying wingers - its bloody ridiculous

can't imagine that Dembele would have been signed as a back up for Mouthino - unless you are thinking that AVB is gonna rotate them a fair bit - i like the look of the above in terms of options (not forgetting we have GDS who may get the chance in his natural WF role) but those are the type of options a serious CL side would have - not little ol' us in EL and scarping around 4th 5th 6th

Re: The summer transfer thread, Dembele pg 1277 #Levytime

It's a long season remember this guys. I think AVB will more than likely take Europa League and FA Cup serious with perhaps some games for Caulker, dos Santos, Livermore, Kane, Townsend etc in the Carling Cup which is a good thing. The fact we still haven't spent more than we've sold is pretty amazing considering some of the players we have brought in.

A very exciting 48 hours in store for Tottenham Hotspur.

We'll have to give it another month or so before we can start to draw any conclusions on how AVB wants us to play (pesky International break), but there's no way we can go into the season without adequate backup in key positions and I see little problem in utilising all the players we look like having. Some might only start 20-30 matches, other more than 40, but there's room for them all IMO. Hudd and Livermore on the other hand...

Moutinho replaces Modric IMO, has been my first choice for it all summer - but having signed Dembele I just dont see the point
