What's the stupidest/worst way you have encountered for a colleague to be sacked?
In my 20 years or so working these three stand out;
When I was a lifeguard, there was a head lifeguard who we called Dolph as he was built like Lundgren and was ex-army, he was obviously not a person to mess with! There was a rather odious colleague who was upset that Dolph got the Head Lifeguard position so had been needling him for a while, this came to a head at a change-over (where you move positions on the pool so as to stay fresh etc) and the odious one again gave Dolph some of what he probably thought was banter, bang! Dolph chinned him in front of probably 200 people! He was dismissed and I got his job (which was nice, but I felt sorry for Dolph as he was a decent person, if unable to curb his agression!).
Secondly;
This one was a friend who was a lifeguard, who I saw maybe a couple of years after I had quit, I asked him how he was and he said 'not to good', I asked if he was still at Worcester Swimming Pool and he replied he was sacked and had been stitched up. How come I enquired? He had been caught steeling toilet rolls! What do you say to someone telling you that?!
Third;
In my first IT Job I worked for a hardware manufacturer, one afternoon a big report was printed to our printer from headquarters in the USA. My boss took the report and went to HR, who in turn went to one of the CAD designers and escorted him off the premises as he was being suspended due to inappropriate internet usage. This chap immediately was fuming as he raged that he had not done anything wrong. After a week or so (with gossip raging around as to what had actually happened), the accused was back and a colleague who sat opposite him was gone, it turns out that the colleague had watched him type his password and then when he left every evening was logging in as him and browsing porn for 1-2 hours a night! The actual culprit, a young korean man, was due to be wed the following week, his fiancee was flying in from Korea and he was now going to have to explain that one to him! The guy originally occused got a pay rise (rumour had it) to come back after being falsely accused.
Any good ones?
