So, what happened today?

Picked up keys for my first house yesterday (I couldn't find the "what happened yesterday" thread).

If I can stay here for the rest of my life, to avoid having to deal with solicitors / estate agents / mortgage brokers ever again I will! What a bizarre industry. Waiting for completion yesterday, slightly nervy as I'd booked furniture to be delivered today and wanted to get downstairs painted over the weekend.

I called the estate agent on my break and they say:
"We haven't heard anything from your solicitor"

So I say "Ah okay, should I chase them up?"

"Oh no it's fine I'll do it now"

It's like these people are just sitting down eating sandwiches / scratching their arse waiting to be pestered and then they might do something. Super odd.

But it's over now at least, GG house party at mine if we win a game this season?

Congratulations a real red letter day for you. It can be a very stressful day, the only time the "professionals" in that game move quickly is when they want your money.

It's a much better option than the "direct cremation" that is the current fad.
Actually I was about to pay for a direct cremation 3 grand no fuss done ashes given to my daughter. My daughter & some friends were not happy about it but I don't want people sitting there crying while I'm being burnt to a crisp. Now I have this option I will change my mind

I'm an only child and both my parents funerals were terrible emotional experiences for me and I wouldn't want my loved ones to through that. This option seems a better choice to me but the day will always be distressing.

The funeral isn't for the deceased, it's for those left behind. It's an important part of the grieving process.
My mum passed away during covid, the funeral was limited to 20 people, it was a horrible experience, one tbh I've never quite come to terms with.
Oh, and 3k is expensive for a direct, I could have got you it for half of that.

Australian.dollars so half it for pounds
It is indeed for those left behind but they should also respect the deceased wishes. after my brother's cremation when I was 21 not a chance I would put my kids through that.

What I would recommend is families have a discussion about what people want & why
