So, what happened today?

I don’t read books
I have a great collection in the loft of comic book annuals I collected as a kid though
Roy of the Rovers
Victor
Beano
Dandy
Battle (I think)
One called eagle too
Got about 200 books
Kids have their own collection and we also have a local small library 10 minutes walk
Always busy
Guess kids do still read

My youngest loved his Melchester Rovers kit I got him from work, he was the only kid who had one.
It was a great pity when our company decided to destroy all the artwork, I'm sure there were some iconic images that could have been saved.

Right. So I know I am going to be in a minority of 1 here.
But I spent this afternoon with some friends at ABBA Voyage. And it was a lot of fun. Obviously it helps if you like a bit of ABBA (although an hour and forty minutes was stretching it). And a jug of Pimms in the sunshine beforehand helps as well.
I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was, technically. I was sceptical about paying to watch something that just wasn’t real but I have to say the way it was done it did feel real for a lot of the time.
Surprised there were so many blokes there. And not enough sparkle and glitter, although we did our bit.
And most importantly it was a great way to take my mind off what was happening over in West London (although I did take a look at my phone a couple of times). It was a huge relief to see the final score as we left the venue.

Minority?
Why?
I love Abba...tremendous...I have meant to get to Voyage numerous times. Will do one day. Sounds like a superb day out.

A small story.
One time I was with Lemmy (Motörhead). "Dancing Queen" was playing in the bar. A kid wandered over to say hello, and said to Lem, "They suck don't they!"
Lem leant back a bit, observed the lad, and said, "When was the last time you wrote a song that 40 million people can sing!"
Wide eyes and silence in response.
"Yeah," growled Lem with a slight sneer and grin all at once, "they really 'suck'!" before returning to his drink.
Marvelous.

Love that story.
I suppose I think of ABBA as being quite “girly” and to be honest I am totally lost with most of the music references I see on here (Although even I didn’t need the reference to Motörhead to know who Lemmy is haha.)
ABBA Voyage ends in November - so you’ve still got a bit of time, if you’re back over here before then.

I've found that after an initial phase of tribalism which usually collides with frontal lobe development (hahaha), people who love music appreciate great songwriters and songs. Abba crafted so many great songs; I can instantly name (and sing -badly!) ten without thinking. Incredible.
...speaking of great songs, was just listening to Dionne Warwick's performance of Bacharach's "Walk On By" earlier (The Stranglers did it too)...what a brilliant song.

p.s. Lem was always great with people, but he didn't suffer fools well at all, and if you said something he considered foolish he'd let you know!

Love Dionne Warwick. When to see her at the London Palladium back in 2022. Her voice was a bit shaky but she still “had” it.

I know the original is a classic from the American Songbook, but I much prefer The Stranglers version (sorry @Glenda's Legs)
