There's nothing different in Richy’s situation than for any other player. If you want to continue playing if your current club doesn’t want to keep you, then it’s on the player to find another team at which point the two clubs negotiate the fee.

But for some reason Richy has decided the only club he wants to play for is a team that can’t afford his transfer so he’s taking us to court. Doesn’t add up.

This is more on Richy than it is Spurs imo and we are right to stand our ground.

I've always supported the lad and wanted him to do well. If you make it clear you want out, that you are actively looking for options then the manager has a team to pick and a squad to register. It looked he was going to rejoin Everton but someone got greedy and the deal couldn't be made. Then other options began to disappear for one reason or another. So we are left with two from Brasil. Someone has a word because they want the player on a free so they can meet his wage demands. Now we have drama. He has to be worth £15-20m, so why would the club go from £20M-30M deals with a year's extention option to say "Thank you for your service go and get paid on us". 100ish games 28 goals over three seasons doesn't get you a £15M handshake. Does it?

we’ll save his salary and it’s not otherwise any different to putting contracted players out on loan.

I’d love to know more about this new law. Because surely it can’t just be that the player can reject all other offers, and then get the contract cancelled, and then just go and join the club they supported as a boy who wouldn’t have been able to afford him any other way?

If the club had refused offers and then left a player to rot, then I’d understand the player being able to cancel their contract. But a player saying they want to leave, and the club agreeing to let them talk to other clubs and agreeing fees with other clubs, and the player not going through with any of it…surely the club is on quite solid ground here?

We’d save his salary either way but if he’s out on loan we’d surely get a decent loan fee which would equate to some proportion of his book value. Rather than just cancel the contract and let him go for nothing so that he can join a club that otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford him, having rejected all other offers. That would be an insane can of worms for the sport to allow.
 
Having just read into the legal side of this more, I’m very certain now that the club is on solid ground, and there is no way FIFA would allow a player to terminate their contract in this way. It would set a ridiculous precedent. And the club have done everything right - we accepted offers that the player refused. We aren’t trying to ruin his career. And I think RDZ making the point publicly that we asked him to extend his contract was actually clever as it relates to legal action. It clearly shows that we wanted our valued player and valued asset to stay. There is no grounds for anything to come back to the club about treating Richy unfairly. Also clever is the pictures released with him training with the first team. He hasn’t been bombed out and I just hope it hasn’t impacted focus in the lead up to Everton.

I’m sure it wasn’t all calculated for him to try and force a move to Vasco, but looking as the steps taken it does seem like it. Extremely silly if true.

If there is proof he has been in contact with Vasco and they have agreed together on this course of action then the club have a conspiracy charge they could levy against the player (it would be hard to indict Vasco as they are an overseas legal entity). Richy is on very thin ice here from a legal standpoint imo.

I don’t think any of us want to see this dragged through the courts. Hopefully all parties can come to an agreement which gets us fair value for our asset and Richy gets to continue his career in the fashion he would like.

The manager could really have liked Ndiaye...and for a net £25M, a bargain that will now not be happening, ever. That will grate on him.

Richie holds the cards though, as although it's not the greatest behaviour, he could simply sit on his arse until the end of the season and get his free transfer.

If we have a year option to extend, and protect some value, that feels a debatable move given how things stand currently. Messy.

We instantly halved his remaining value by making him ineligible for half the remaining games in his remaining contract, so that's on the club

We may as well let any player who wants to leave go for nothing then if it means upsetting them. Nobody forced him to sign his last generous contract, he should honour it, I assume he is expecting to get paid by his slave masters until this is resolved?
Look for something else to blame the club for.

Yep, how any Spurs fan can side with Richi here is beyond me.

Has he actually apologised for his social media outburst?

Quite honestly, let him go to his lawyers. they will tell him he has no case anyway. Let him go to his trade union. He'll get the same message there as well.

Richi needs to hold himself accountable for the predicament he finds himself in. He bit the hand that feeds him and is paying the price. He can pay us £10m himself and buy out his contract. Why should we lose out?

I'm just saying we've put ourselves in a situation where £10m is the fair price now to accept today, or he signs a pre-contract in January and goes for free instead

He's the only player who has cared about the club and given his all through the absolute brickshow of the last 3 years (Sonny too)

No idea, apparently he turned down Everton to move to Turkey because the wages there are massive as footballers don't pay tax.

We should loan him to any club who will fund his wages - bit of a mess all round really.
