Exactly what was said locally during the by election, so many interviews with people talking about how they’re on benefits and they’re sick of immigrants receiving more than them and how they’re voting reform as they think the usual parties don’t do enough for them.

Farage wins, and days later Reform want to slash benefits, ironically, exactly as they always said they would - the epitome of turkeys voting for Christmas, especially in a town where it’s about 95% white residents with a good proportion on benefits. So actively voting against their own interests.

I think a lot of these people don’t care if their lives get worse, as long as the lives of immigrants are worse still, it feels like as long as you give them someone to be ‘above’ then it’s ok.

I’m cheered by the speed with which the Tories have moved to say that this is a bòllocks idea. Looks like red meat for the base but ultimately a vote loser that falls apart under any scrutiny, the equivalent of a Corbyn or Polanksi vowing to nationalise Tesco.

You can see the pattern forming tbf. Yes, there will be people claiming benefits that aren’t truly in need of all of them, because yes there are people in society who steal and use violence and do horrible nasty things that something like this will be there as an option, but watch this turn into a “people on benefits” thing as opposed to a “there are some individuals who happen to claim benefits who also game the system…” thing.

As I see you can see the pattern already:

First it was immigrants…
Now it’s people who claim benefits…

I imagine next probably the disabled or elderly? Anyone but bankers, CEO’s of major utilities and privately educated millionaires.

I would say the garden varierty Reform voter is way more likley to know what they are voting for than a typcial Labour voter, and it is rarely a protest vote. If they wanted to do that they could vote for a bin.

There are voters who put their cross next to the same party in every election, regardless of what that party does.
That's how we ended up in state we are in, not properly holding our elected officials to account.
Unfortunately it looks like that's the way reform voters are going, some people just never learn.

This is my point. This cohort of voters always votes the same way, irrespective of policy, of which they are probably ignorant. Those who switch to Reform now are doing so for a reason.

Well, quite.

I understand perfectly well why some people despair at the circumstances they find themselves in. To say successive governments have let these people down is almost too obvious a thing to say. They are of the mind, well, why don't I vote for reform, as what good has voting for Labour or Conservative ever done for me? But there are other parties besides this latest incarnation of the BNP to move to. That part I don't forgive. Much like the disaster that is unfolding across the pond, absolutely no good will come of voting based on hatred of the other. Not to mention, it is also usually coupled with incompetence.
