I think there’s also something to be said for, even when it’s a politician, strolling up and whacking a camera in their face is still uncomfortable for people - a lot of them probably aren’t answering because they want to know in what way the clip is going to be used. Though, if they’re truly campaigning they should be able to answer questions if asked in good faith.
As for languages, you need to be able to communicate with the people you are serving, if 95% of your local parish speak something other than English, it’s useful to speak that language. I do think they should also have basic English skills too, but this is being cut and framed in a way that avoids context. I’d be curious to know if that Green Party statement was filmed in several different languages.
The first bloke is the exact sort of prized prat I hate, goes up chucks a camera in someone’s face and asks what the policies are.. they mention parking, “can you drive?” Who cares, the point of politics is they’re looking to improve parking for YOU as well. Same with council tax, they mention freezing it, and it’s “do you pay it? If not why aren’t you freezing mine?” They are, but you didn’t want to listen, you wanted to make your 7 followers touch themselves at you bullying some non white folk.
Nigel Farage doesn’t go to school, but I’d like to think he would have an education policy - we’re clearly crying out for a few more based on some of these people.
