It's not really a proper comparison though, totally different legal systems. We have far more checks and balances here and the PM doesn't have the power of the President.

You've been posting about how Labour will be different, they're not quite on the same scale as the Tories (yet) but it's essentially the same playbook, political parties and some politicians do whatever is in their interest.

Afghanistan during a flight to India our plane had to do an emergency landing in Kabul and end up staying there for a week in a hotel under security… after all we can’t have the luxury of flying on a magical donkey to a place that didn’t even exist.

This is quite simple for most folk. Most people would prefer the government as the ultimate backstop for their savings, and most people don't have more than 85k that needs protection (and if they do they just open another account with different institution).
That also negates the worry of 'what a bank might do with your money' ...my backstop is not with them. They could lose it all, it wouldn't matter.
Anything is possible with private companies, as we know. That's where the trust that they behave themselves comes in.
