Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

What about them. I've got the utmost respect for principled anti EU folk. Many weren't racist. That doesn't mean it wasn't a horrifically racist campaign.

It was a coalition of 52% of the population, so it had plenty of good and bad. Lexiters like me could never bear the stench of Farage and co, but they proved useful for getting numbers across the line at that particular juncture.

there was a referendum a few years ago and nobody was remotely interested.

Genuinely one of the worst run campaigns ever by the Lib Dems. Even now, a fair part of the population do not realise how undemocratic FPTP really is. Stability under incompetent people is no boon. Labour would have been wise to push the educational piece on voting reform but they've made eff all good decisions so far and I doubt that will change under Starmer.

I think the fear of the Lib Dems or the SNP controlling government spooked most people.

I think the British public also really prize being able to punish poor governments by completely wiping them out, whereas its harder to ensure someone is out of government when they are determined by negotiations rather than directly by votes
