OMT - Tottingham Hotspurs v Manchester Utd

Henry keeps banging on about needing to win something very quickly; i don't remember other pundits giving it so much attention when the SCUM had their spell of however many years it was, since they won a trophy. There was even a web site dedicated to it with a timer counting the years/month/weeks/days/hours/seconds etc.

'For a few years'....in that case dont expect to see many of the current lot stay!

I doubt that we will see many leave this summer, we have a strong team spirit and they have developed together.

We have to be realistic, our income is sufficiently less than the richer clubs in the league and we are halfway through a £800m project. We will need to be in the new stadium for a few years before we can start looking at significant changes to our wage structure.

All of our players are on long contracts. If anyone wants to leave, we are going to get a good fee. We can use that to reinvest in the squad and continue to grow.

I didnt say significant changes - we're not going to be paying within say 25% of the top payers for another 5-10 years I agree (ie if someone at one of the other clubs is on £200k, then us paing say £150k).

However we are going to need to inch our wages up over the next for years - ie our top earners who are on, I believe, £110k, going to £120k next year, then £130k the year after etc so that over time we get closer to the top clubs, though still a bit short. Roll forwards 5 years and they'll be paying £250k - £300k comfortably

Cant wait to see what DL says in the announcement which is due soon about our financial position

This would be a careful, financially prudent way to run a business , as AdamB would agree. However, I would argue that our revenue will be higher next year, nearly the same as when the new WHL is in full swing. Of course, we have more costs now and will not be able to compete with the Doped clubs, possibly ever, but we can reward the players in this squad, not just for this year but some for last year too. Bring them to believe we are on the move upwards and short term gain elsewhere is not in their interests.

Otherwise, that promise of a young, developing and maturing team leading to glory, will yet again fail. I remember the Crystal Palace team of the eighties, under Allison and Venables, sold within a couple of years of the eighties.

Loved the ceremony ...and the rainbow at the end. A fitting finale. And a win with a goal from a corner and free- kick as I predicted. Perfik.

Rather than looking at what we can offer individual players, I think that you need to look at the percentage of net income that goes on wages. Currently 52% of our turnover goes on wages, I cannot see us moving far away from this but higher income should allow us to pay higher wages.

Final whistle +90mins - still only 17pages. What could everyone possibly be doing?

Great game - shame about Rooney having final goal. At least it could be "which loser scored the last goal at WHL?"
