So the Ekitike one on Romero that was allowed to stand was ok, but the Kolo one on Gabriel wasn't. We have the prejudice against us summed up quite nicely in that video.

It’s the inconsistency that’s the problem.

They need to give VAR longer and let it cross reference against precedent.

Subjectivity needs to be worded out of the laws.

I'll preface this by saying that I think the Romero one was a foul and said it at the time. I also think the Muani one is.

I guess the difference is that Ekitike "foul" was committed while making a genuine leap to get the ball so you could make the argument that it's two lads going for the ball and one has just been too strong for the other. Muani isn't trying to challenge for the ball, he's just looking to push Gabriel out of the way. Gabriel has made the most of it though. From an optics point of view, I don't agree with the Ekitike decision, but I understand why it wasn't given and Muani's was.

I don't think Muani pushed Gabriel. Sure, he put his hands on his back but there was no push there. I think Ekitike may have given Romero a very slight push but had got up above him and the goal standing was probably right. Whatever one thinks about whether or not these should be goals or fouls surely we all agree that whatever the decision, it has to be consistent. They are either both goals or both fouls.

Looking back, did anyone take any small positives from Igor's first game that may be of use in the final stretch of games to come?
The players looked slightly more combative. If he keeps that kind of attitude, Muani could be a difference-maker. Tudor's gameplan looks better and less negative than Frank's.

If it was the other way around, would you have expected a penalty?

That would be soft as brick.

I think I hate modern football.
Maybe but, to be fair, how often do you hear "there was contact so that's a pen". If that is the barometer of what a foul is, Muani's is definitely a foul - he's put his hands on Gabriel to gain an advantage.

Just had a re read through the thread after a few days and I still think that our wage structure and recruitment policy is what has caused our decline since the Champions league final. I know we pay more than the likes of Palace Brentford Fulham etc to name a few but there are at least 6 or 7 clubs whos wage bill is significantly higher than ours. Its why the likes of City and Arsenal can get top class players to join them. City got Semenyo and Guehi for a combined £85mil ? in January. Both of them miles better in their respective positions than anyone we have got. Our recruitment has been terrible for years. I know there is no replacements available for the likes of Son and Kane when they left but Kane to Bayern and Tel to us good grief.
I`ve seen it said in the thread that some of you think Simons is going to be a top player but I just can`t see it. He has been at 2 of the biggest Clubs in Europe PSG and Barcelona and they let him go then PSV and Liepzig same again until we pay 55 million euros for him. And some on here think he will be a better player than Eze when he gets to Eze`s current age. For one Eze is not even a starter for Arsenal and 2 he`s not that good it`s just that we have made him look good for a couple of games. If we get a full squad with no injuries Simons will be a bench warmer at best, I`ll be amazed if he becomes a consistent starter for us.
In fact in 3 years and 5 managers time I doubt hardly any of our current squad will still be playing for us
