Well that was horrific. We were very poor.

The positives are that we mugged them for a point, Vicario was magnificent and Muani showed a flash or two with the scraps he got.

There’s no fluidity or attacking structure really. Spence, who has less of a left foot than me, got the ball twice in the last 10 mins and had absolutely no option. No one moving for him. Once he came back, the other he pulled out a cheeky flick to Xavi.

Not good enough really. A good team will bum us. Still early days though.

Would be far too progressive for us - we always pick these guys up once they have peaked somewhere else. Read the piece on him as well, very interesting stuff.

He's quite the character, but obviously knows a thing or two, because the way Mjällby are playing, with the players they have, is just astonishing!
The movement and positional change is amazing to watch, and it's very quick and effective!

Our midfield is killing us. No sure the point of a defensive double pivot when Vicario had to make that many saves.

No creativity or movement in our midfield. Richy was shocking. He cannot control the ball at the moment.

It's tough watching us at the moment.

Ricky is not the problem imo, but he does need rest from time to time. I would start Muani on the left and then, if he is up for it, move to CF when Richarlison is taken off. We don't create enough chances for the CF, can't blame Richarlison for that. Muani would be more helpful on the wing if he can provide that.

Issue is that Richy brings nothing in terms of processing the team up the pitch. He doesn't hold it up, control the ball, get in behind etc. Muani gave the Monaco defence more of a game in a fraction of the time.

Are we going to make the next round?

We got into Europe’s premier competition through the back door, having finished 17th. Taking a step back, therefore, probably not a surprise that we aren’t setting the competition alight.

He's not the problem, but he's not the solution either. He is way too reactive to lead the line on his own, he doesn't have the skills to be an effective target and he doesn't have a Kane-Brain creating space, and while he could probably be useful with a well-rounded altruistic playmaker behind him we simply do not have that player. He will chip in with a goal or 7, but as of now he's not what we (sorely) need.

I’ve no idea how that wasn’t a cricket score. We were absolutely abysmal. We offered precisely nothing going forward. It was similar to the Villa game in that respect, only worse. Which in itself was an achievement; probably the only one of the night.
