I spend a lot of time driving for work and have a few music podcasts I am regularly listening to. My musical interests are varied but in general I just like good music over specific genres.

Bandsplain
The presenter does come across as a grown-up teenager sitting in her bedroom looking at the posters on her wall but some of the stories she has researched are hilarious (Shaun Ryder's dad was a writer on The Two Ronnies before becoming a postie!) even if the episodes are long. The seven-hour pod on the Mondays and Stone Roses is particularly epic but also enjoyed the ones on Primal Scream, Portishead and JAMC too.

You'll Hear It
Two trained jazz musicians breaking down classic albums. The majority are jazz albums and artists, but they also cover albums by the likes of Prince, Stevie Wonder, D'Angelo, Parliament and Radiohead.

Sound Opinions
Two Chicago-based music writers covering a multitude of different musical subjects along with regular reviews on new releases. A couple of new artists and releases they put me onto from their Sept 10th episode "Buried Treasures, RIP Dolly Parton" episode are...

A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs
This one is a beast. I've been listening to it for 5+ years now and we're not out of the 1960's yet. It is VERY in-depth and incredibly well researched but some of the episodes can be a grind, especially the ones on artists you don't particularly care for. The depth of knowledge is encyclopedic, and the presenter does weave interesting, connected threads though his stories and goes so much deeper than the usual bumpf we hear about certain artists or records being made. I've been diligent in listening to every episode but you could easily pick and choose depending on the artist.

One by Willie
Listen...my wife is from the southern US and she turned me on to old country when we started dating. I like it more than the newer pop-country rubbish but Wille Nelson is the only artist from the older country generation I really listen to. Whether you like his music or not, he's more than just a country artist and is truly one of the greatest songwriters still alive (over 150 studio albums released and at 94 years old he still puts out two albums a year and performs 100+ shows). Anyways, this pod is one famous Willie fan selecting one song and talking about it and how it has influenced them.

Some of those sound like torture to me, but some also sound epic.
I will definitely give the Willie Nelson one (mainly because of my dad) and the 500 songs one.

Well, Jack White last night was as good as I've ever seen him (and I've seen him a fair few times)...no phones allowed in building, what bliss! No silly claminos waving their devices around like bolted appendages...I did come to an epiphany during Seven Nation Army as well. As I belted out 'Oh Moussa Sissko' along with the epic closer, I was back in the Wanda moments before kick-off...and I realized that was the last time I have felt gloriously deliriously happy at a game. Wow. That was hea-vy!

He is a force of nature. The phone thing was in play when I saw him too which is bliss. The offical photographer shots were class anyway.

Yes, their tour photog has a very goodeye and captures things extremely well. He's done the phone thing for a while now, it started as a request around 8 years ago and became mandatory at a cost it has to be said (i.e. the phone pouches ain't cheap to have as a servie for the venue). He is indeed a force of nature and always has been, albeit his relationship with the six-string muse gets more complicated as the years go on...I love it. We sacrificed the posh seating area for a place near the front to the right of stage, which meant we actualy only had a clear clear view of him and the drummer. Fine by me. I wanted proximity to his energy, which adds a dimension IMO.

For all the years I've been listening to, and seeing, him, he maintains this supremely uneasy yet hugely powerful relationship with his guitars. There are times he seems genuinely uncomfortable wrestling the voice out of it before he suddenly just hits it. He has no choice. This is what he has to do (well, alongside the dozens of other things he does, but I think you know what I mean...)

He is truly, truly a special artist. I insisted my missus went last night. She was on the fence. By the end it was like I'd brought her to a revival and she'd been saved!!!!!! Hands in the air, hollering, moving...I have over the years insisted that she see Lem (obviously!), Iggy Pop too. She knew she had to see Lee Scratch Perry. Obviously McCartney. There are a few you just have to see while you can because if they go, there won't be another. Jack White is one of them...
