Micky van de Ven

It's because he didn't make a genuine attempt for the ball so you can get the double punishment. Which does make a bit of mockery of Romero's recent sending off as his was a genuine attempt for the ball, a ball he even got to first. Yet he was still sent off.
Yeah, I get it's the rules, although this kind of holding happens at every corner in every PL game, and is extremely rarely punished.

I just think it’s a double punishment, as surely a penalty should be enough compensation for the denied goalscoring opportunity - if the foul isn't a red card foul in itself.

I think it is fair with a red if the opponent is denied a clear goalscoring opportunity, but outside the box, so it's just a free kick.

Meanwhile the Woolwich Wanderers are yet concede a penalty or have a player sent off despite perpetrating multiple acts of GBH this season! Hopefully if our Micky moves this summer he don’t end up there though!

Still a really good player who if the situation is different next season can be excellent for us. Difficult to see how we get there right now, first we need to survive in the PL. But VdV is a really good player in the right setup for him.
