Maurice Norman RIP

Spur of the moment

Frederic Kanoute
So sad to learn of the passing of Maurice Norman, one of my great heroes from the magnificent Double-winning team.

I fondly recall Monty as a rock-solid defender from the mid-50s who went on to established himself as our centre-half in the Double-winning side right through to the mid 60s. Strong and powerful both in the tackle and in the air, he was also something of a gentle giant.

Above all he was Mr Dependable.

RIP Maurice.

I've only seen old videos, but he always seemed a bit of a stalwart at the heart of that team.

I remember Cliff Jones and Terry Medwin recently teasing that they used to call him Bungalow... because he had nothing upstairs. Though I think that might have been a general thing about being from Norfolk.

Was a very good player for sure and a hell of a nice guy off the pitch, regular for England as well. Played over 400 games for us and only a broken leg ended his playing days. RIP big man.
