Luka Vuskovic

There's no evidence of that, other than their amateurish PR. They've signed some bargain basement journeymen so far and seem on track for zero net spend again. It's going more back to the Graham and Hoddle era, before Pleat got us on to signing youth prospects too
Give it a rest mate! The old broken record is really becoming boring.

Bargain basement journeymen? Senesi? Van Hecke? Man, you do talk brick!

See where we are in a year when we come bottom 1/4 again and can't give them away. Its just the John Scales and Chris Perry brick again. We've seen this story before. We've no direction, no judgement

How can you not be furious? These clowns have nearly got us relegated twice, the last time by the hairs breath of 2 goals

I should not fall for your usual hyperbole but here goes....

Are you seriously correlating the likes of Bunjevčević with Van Hecke?

One thing we can be certain of is that if this strategy bears fruit and, in a year we are revising a top 4, top 6 finish, you will have very little to say about your current opinion.

I think Vuskovic is the real deal, and will become a top top centre back. HOWEVER, I also think that, in JPvH and Senesi we've got two centre backs who are ahead of him at the moment. Senesi looks pretty damn good – the type who lifts others around him – while JPvH looks to have attributes that our current manager wants and, importantly, has worked with him before.

If that was all, we could keep Vuskovic and, as 3rd choice CB, he'll get a healthy wodge of game time. However, we also have VdV and Romero, both of whom have shown that they can be much better defenders than than they have been for the last two seasons. The problem is that they have not done well as a pairing. It may be that JPvH-VdV or Senesi-Romero can become our new Toby and Jan instead.

Vuskovic plus a year's Prem experience (assuming he takes to it as well as he's taken to the Bundesliga) would be good enough to walk into our side. Right not, not quite. And the problem with loaning him to a PL side is that, well, we've just finished 17th twice so almost any other team would be a step up in theory.

RDZ has done the right thing in buying JPvH and Senesi, IMHO. Build from the back and, if good defenders are available, get them. They are less of a gamble than Vuskovic. If we're going to play two CBs, there just isn't room for him unless both VdV and Romero are off. If it's a back 3, well, that could work if just of our senior defenders packs his bags.

I've not even mentioned Danso, who's a player I've got a lot of time for. If he's happy to stick around as backup, I will be very happy indeed.

This really all comes back to the management of the squad over the last few years, not having a settled style of play and manager. Being a club that seeks to promote youth and having stability etc.

If we had all that then players would know where they stand but we have a complete mish mash of CBs of varying styles and ages, injuries haven't helped of course but if we'd had Vuskovic during the Poch era for example we'd have had games to give him minutes and a clearer pattern of play and path to the first team.

I'd rather loan him out but feels like he wants to go, if we can get a good fee, buy back clause and sell on percentage then I think we have to take it.

I imagine in offering a wage boost we’ve also asked for probably 2 or more years extra on the contract length right? And I think that’s where the issue comes in. He probably doesn’t want to give us any more years, because he feels like he doesn’t need us anymore.

That’s what irks me. It not that we don’t want him. It’s likely actually that he doesn’t want to give us more years. More power in a contract.

I see his point of view, our defence has been terrible and we've then signed 2 top CBs so what is the path for him here especially with no Europe? I think he knows deep down that he's not ready to be a starter every week in the PL but he does need games and has had a taste of playing regularly in Germany.

Equally I can see our point of view, we have been poor for a while and need to get back into contending for European places and have a fan base demanding top players.

I do feel if we could agree a loan then in a years time we'd be in a much better position to understand where we are squad wise and obviously we'll know if we're in Europe etc but feels like he doesn't want to wait so £50m with a buyback or sell on clause probably suits both parties.

To be honest, from what i have seen of him so far he reminds me more of a Maguire. Great in the air but turned easily, no real pace and not great positionally. That is fine in a lot of leagues, but in the prem it is all about pace and positioning. In a 3 I think he would be good, but outside of that I just can't see what the hype is about.

He's young and defenders don't really come into their own until 24+ so hardly writing him off, but if we get a good offer thats right for everyone, I wouldn't be concerned on moving him on to improve the rest of the squad.

The fact that he never seems to have been tested in a back four is enough for me to have severe reservations about his readiness for PL

Jun'ai Byfield is extremely highly rated at the club, so maybe the thinking is that we keep one very promising CB (English and homegrown) and sell the other, who's currently worth an awful lot more on the market.
