Levy's Plan

And that he wouldn't have left then

I think he is a tremendous player, but there is zero point crying about things that happened or didn't happen 20 years ago
Not sure what you heard from that interview?….

“Tottenham, if the offer was great I would have (joined them), but I couldn’t believe that Tottenham couldn’t even match Bolton’s offer”. So I felt like I was needed at Bolton. If you need someone then you go the extra mile to get the player, so I stayed”

"if the offer was great"

So matching Bolton would not have worked. So the not matching part is a moot point.

But add it to the Mane pile and moan about it for another 20 years if you wanna.

I would jope that Vinai learnt his lesson. We held onto Frank too long. hoping injuries would cover us with returning players that only got worse. When he finally acted he made the biggest mistake either in hiring Tudo. That is when he should have gone all in for RDZ. We had some buffer when Tudor was hired which he took to the hilt. RDZ came in and things changed almost instantly.

So lets hope he learned. he seems to have learned by give the manager the players he wants. And not being financially restrictive. I have nothing against levy, he done some amazing things for us as a club with the stadium and training ground. But he for sure held us back when we could have pushed on. I think he lucked out with poch. it was just that right moment with a good manager with young willing players. and it almost took us to a prem and champions league win. But you cant strike gold each time. And money does not even equal success.

Hiring RDZ could be a master stroke for us. And giving him the players he wants also. Let see how this season goes. two seasons of 17th have tempered any pre-season hopes I had in the past. I want to see it on the pitch first. I have faith in RDZ but worry about his longevity at the club. But for now we need to get up the league. Simple as that.
Tudor being appointed was on the back of RDZ digging his heels in, adamant that he didn't want to come in at the arse end of the season and confronted by a sticky situation.

£££££s eventually changed his mind AND I have a hunch that might just benefit everyone. Although RDZ didn't want to come in then, that major rescue job and the 7 games insight he had pays handsomely now. It's bought goodwill from the board and the fans. The board are full of confidence to back him and we hit the ground running this season, with RDZ confident with who he's brought in and flushed out.

Could be a sliding doors moment.

Of all things..The catalyst may well be the passing of Tudors father? RIP

But we didn't match Bolton..... "Tottenham couldn't even match Bolton's offer" so we'll never know whether or not he would've come had we matched.

If we had matched their offer and he still stayed at Bolton then so be it. I'd respect that from the player (but he clearly knew Spurs were a much bigger club than Bolton and it would've been nice to find out who he preferred if his pay was equal).

Thanks for the tip of adding it to the Mane pile. I'll do that!

Seriously mate! Come on you’ve spent the last 6 months screaming it was a Levy appointment not a Vinai one! Haha

If the narrative on here was more balanced rather than every other thread having a dig at the old regime and how much it’s changed under the new guy then there would be less “pro Levy” comments looking to redress the balance. Just look how today’s conversation started, literally zero context, just a dig out of nowhere.:tearsofjoy:
I've been saying it for 6 months because people keep trying to change the reality so that it sits more comfortably with them.

I was no fan of Levy but I will give him his credit where it's due just like I will give him scorn when that is also due.

The old regime dwarves the dig, I'm sorry but it's going to happen. Just like there are loads of Levy lovers who sing his praises constantly. That's just the way the cookie is going to crumble.

Thats not what alluding to when saying "if the offer is great" and I suspect you know that,

Anyway all if buts and maybes that no one knows either way, but its not as clear cut as the nause WOH makes out, it never is

Of that I have absolutely no doubt

For years you've been saying Levy should let football people make football decisions. So he appointed Lange, who recommended his mate Frank.
I guess you also think Levy was the architect of all Poch's successes?
It was telling that (and I get it we finished 17th) but I can't remember too many people congratulating him for the UEFA Cup win despite him being directly blamed for the lack of Cups before. I don't mind the debate and I get people have differing views, but sometimes the disingenuous nature shows.

Ultimately I don't take the "being a Levy fan" as a dig, you bet your bottom line I am a fan of someone who worked for 25 years to deliver the club we have now, the club thats now being leveraged by its owns to financially fund the transfers from loans form the asset he grew. To take the team from the late 90s to the CL and to the new ground, you bet your bottom buck I am thankful and a fan for that.

Funnily enough lots of people on here seemed to want rid of Lange and Vinai last season, the same people that had given Levy the benefit of many bad football decisions spread over many years. At the time I said that I thought it only right to wait and give them some time (especially Vinai) before we judged. There have been lots of stories over the years how Levy micromanaged and didn't cede any real control over decision making.

Let's see how the people get on at the club now they are allowed to actually do the jobs they are recruited to do.

Amen to that. Haters have to hate the same as lovers have to love.

I think we first approached RDZ last spring on the day after he left Marseille, with him saying he needed a break so we then went after Tudor.

IF we had fired TF earlier as many of us wish (myself included), who would we have as manager now?

It's a funny old game...

I think we all have to go a little more surgical on the entire Frank-Tudor-RDZ chronology.

11 Feb - Frank leaves Spurs
11 Feb - RDZ leaves Marseille
16 Feb - Tudor joins Spurs

So love it or hate it, the Frank succession plan of Tudor was in the works way before Spurs knew of RDZ being available. Even then, we don't even know that from 11-16 Feb RDZ was even willing or legally able to take our role that quickly

In an ideal world we would have immediately changed direction and gone for RDZ on the 12 Feb and had him in place pretty much immediately. Problem is life doesn't work like that. We don't know whether RDZ was contractually free to take another job and we don't know how long the recruitment cycle was going to take.

I'm just wondering what the scenario would have been if RDZ had gone 8-10 weeks earlier.

Good info.

I think we tried with RDZ in Feb but he didn't want to jump straight back in with another club. This led to us getting Tudor and then with the loss of his father that gave us time to negotiate with RDZ after he'd had a little break to reassess things.

If we had fired TF earlier, who would have options been then? Alonso?

Managers often want a break post sacking, easy to jump at a new job, clear the fuzz and make a decision based on logic. I am sure that logic came with leveraging our relegation fears for money TBH

Yea… but….Levy!

To butcher an Ange quote “Levy does funny things to some people”! Literally lives rent free in a few people’s heads here.
