A guy just killed himself in the wake of incredible scrutiny and pressure from the media and other commentators. I don't think me expressing the fact that I feel some topics just don't need the level of discussion that this clearly got is an absurd thing for me to say. I've said similar on here about other things. The internet gives everyone a megaphone and a vast number of people feel they need to use that megaphone at every opportunity, whatever the cost.

I will also contend rob would never have started this thread if Arday wasn't black. He's tried his best to try and make it about all else but ultimately he is, in my view, a massive bigot who also clearly lacks any compassion.

So when people say the media and reddit forums are responsible for stirring up hatred and responsible for the murders of Anne Widdocombe & Charlie Kirk you are in agreement?

Because I think that’s equallly absurd to be honest.

I repeatedly pointed out that the more I read, the more it looked like he was a victim of being used and manipulated.
I also made it pretty clear that I felt his autism/spectral diagnosis as a child was very significant. I ended up in a bizarre debate where I had to explain the premise of masking among other traits.
Self-reflection is absolutely right, but the bottom line is there was one thread about this guy because he became headline news and cannon fodder, whereas the many others who engage in chicanery (and are NOT being used) to get into positions of power are not spoken of.

More empathy in general is a fine thing.

I certainly didn't feel slighted by it mate, especially as I tried to point out there were -when you looked beyond the headlines- a lot of other contexts and matters to consider, not the least of which was being used by a system and his childhood diagnosis.

I beleive that blaming the media and those who had an interest in the story is letting those those who enabled and manipulated him, namely Cambridge University, off the hook. From the moment the story broke I’ve said they are the true guilty party.

Will stop posting about this now.

FWIW just because media harrassment does not always end so tragically, it does not mean its affects are not widespread and huge (drug and alcohol addiction, ruined lives, etc). The WAY in which a story is reported is EVERYTHING. Everything. Especially in areas where there are many other potential offenders who escape scrutiny.

They should take a moment and consider how their hatred of black people flourishing after centuries of subjugation, is disgusting racism. Period.

I would have no issue with reporting Arday's story IF the same standards were held throughout.
They aren't.
And haven't been for a long time.
With regards to media, anyone who refuses to understand that the type, balance, frequency and fairness of coverage matters is either ambiently blind or willfully blind IMO.

FWIW I am not always sure whether people who take in, and take an interest in, a story that's fed so aggressively understand the deeper context behind WHY it's being fed. I think that's fair to say in this case. To me, as I researched, it was clear that this story was less about Arday and more about a series of other agendas.

Baron Cohen co-authored a study which says that adults with autism find complex tactical lying challenging. He also removed his signature from the Good Law Project’s solidarity letter in support of Jason Arday.
