He’s in that group for me of when are we just going to properly try some of these lads? Him, Scarlett and Devine - we need to know soon if we feel they are worth persisting with and to start giving some of our youth players a go with the first team. I’m a bit concerned that Devine has an option clause (at least I’m sure I read he did) as that suggests he’s in the shop window.

Dane has looked good and enthusiastic and tbh, capable when he’s appeared in European games and when we’re struggling for goals it would be good to see what he has about him with better players surrounding him. Donkey seems to have great vision… I know not everyone can make it but I find it fairly disheartening the amount of young players who seem highly rated who just slowly drift out of the club after loan spells.

Devine is the one that’s bothered me the last 2 seasons. He would have played about 2000 minutes for Spurs by now had he stuck around.

an option to buy means that if the player wants to go the clubs have a pre-agreed fee - if he elects not to go then he won't move.

See Johnny Cardoso for a reference on that - bizarrely we effectively paid for a first refusal that the player, well, refused.

Chris Fairclough? Good defender...superstar? I would expect a superstar to be a regular international at least.
Things were a bit different in that era - caps were much harder to come by. Butcher and Walker had the spots locked down - even Mabbutt, Bruce, Pallister, Adams werent really getting look ins.

Fairclough was a pretty dominant figure in the Leeds title winning side. He would definitely have been an upgrade on the likes of Sedgley and then Calderwood, who we had partnering Mabbutt during that period

Still not a superstar, IMO Mabbutt was a much better midfield player than centreback, had a great engine and could tackle properly.

Not sure he had a choice to stick around. I've always quite rated him. Just had a look at his stats and he's played 24, scored 4 and assisted twice for PNE who are 6th in the Championship.

It would have been interesting to see the Brentford game with him at 10 and Gray back in the double pivot.
