ITK Thread

That’s what we would say for sure

I think someone hit on it earlier. It could have been you, can't remember. I know you also referenced PSR in a different thread.

The financial year-end is 30 June. So knowing it is a 3 year rolling calculation, I guess some clubs want to get money spent before 30 June. Others will push it beyond 30 June.

Yeah it was me
But it doesn’t stack up for every club
A lot depends on the buy out period too

Never at any point in his life was Son a better finisher than Messi. That kills the idea of him being the best finisher in the world stoke dead.

I think this phenomenon exists because we weren't winning anything so the fans needed to latch on to something semi tangible and claiming X player is the best at something is both tangible but also largely unprovable and that's why it happens.

For clarity (I'm not arguing the point)

- Son outperformed his xG by a margin that was clear of everyone else in Europe for several years (including Kane, Lewa, etc.)
- The distribution (two footedness) of his goals were right up there as well.

The guy was an elite level finisher, was he the absolutely best? no, but he was quite close.

Son, unfortunately like Kane (until he moved) will have his numbers skewed by not playing for an elite side, an old (not prime) Kane has scored 62 goals in 63 league games for Bayern (that is Messi/Ronaldo output), a prime Kane scored 213 in 317 for Spurs. Put prime Son in the Liverpool or City sides of last 7 years, no one would be asking if he's an elite finisher ..

Son was certainly an elite finisher, that's not even up for debate to me. He just wasn't the best finisher in the world. I watched a LOT of football in that era and the range and quality of finishes from Messi is just not something Son had, as great as he was.

It's a bit unfair to compare anyone to messi. He is arguably one of the best players to ever play the game.

In some ways Son is a mug. He should look at his old mate taking a step forward into an easier league and elite team and still banging in the goals for fun. Watching a team allow him to just be himself and putting the water carriers around him to make him successful. Playing for a team that has won that league 12 out of the last 13 seasons and go into every game favourites. Son should be thinking that he'll have some of that.

I massively admire how Salah has conditioned his body in his thirties for the PL environment. Son would need to be totally injury free to have a run at conditioning himself to Mo's level. I'm not sure he is. Kane definitely wasn't. Ronaldo used to manage it way into his thirties.

Before it wasn't such an issue as Son seemed way more robust than what he is today. He should seriously think about his next move for his own sake.
