Interim manager thread 2.0

You don't have to take anything in to account from the time. People right now on this forum are struggling with this in 2026. It's just complex as they've overlooked his victims for years and haven't with others. It's now hard for them to explain so there's a fair bit of whataboutery. I'm not surprised.

I’m not sure about ‘whataboutery.’ Some of us were pointing out the potential hypocrisy of fans groups issuing statements about what De Zerbi said while remaining silent for years on issues of a similar nature which have been associated with the club for a lot longer than our new manager.

We should have asked Keanu Reeves to do the job, he may know f.a. about football but apparently he's a very nice person. It's right people should want decent people to be associated with the club but expecting any morality in professional sport is delusional. We are is the S hit and need to do what we can to get out of it. Some will think that's unacceptable and will be prepared to be relegated with their dignity in place. I know from experience that doing the right thing and standing by your principles rarely get you anywhere in business and no matter what fans think it's just a business, sport walked out of the door when they sold out to TV money.

No. I'm referring to Gazza and his mental well being and lack of support. Which is true. But those excuses are not given equitably in my view. Not even discussing RDZ in particular right now.

I'm talking about how young black players are treated by fans and media and Gazza being a good benchmark on how these inequities are still apparent not just in media but in subconscious biases when discussing players who commit DV.

That's textbook whataboutery. 'What about Gazza' 'what about Woodgate' etc etc - what about them? Why does anything relating to those incidents have any baring on what's happening today? Social attitudes have changed/progressed and we're more socially conscious as a society than we were 30 - 20 - 10 years ago. If those incidents that were swept under the carpet back then were to happen today then there would likely be a different public reaction.

Edit : wrt to Gazza specifically @LutonSpurs I think there's a bit of the above at play - we are talking 35+ years ago after all. A better comparison to highlight any disparity would be to other incidents from the same era

I thought Mikey was referring to there being no complaints when we appointed Vinai (re Partey) or Conte (re the Alonso situation)?

I missed that if so -Alonso/Conte for me not comparable at all. VV obviously fairly comparable - in hindsight I think there should have been more questions raised over that when he was appointed, i think because he's a CEO level hire that it didn't hit the same - would most people even know what his job at Arsenal entailed and what he did or didn't do wrt Partey? He likely had a say in it but from the outside it's guilty by association vs something tangible

Not having a go, but this is where we get to if we start down this road; you are making highly personal judgements on who you think should and shouldn’t be employed by the club based on your own reading of situations, which is most probably gained through what you have seen through the filter of the media.

It’s what a small group at the top of THST did yesterday, then chose to present their perspective as representing the views of the majority (if not all) Tottenham supporters…hence why they are receiving a lot of comeback from their members today.

You’ve probably got one reading of what De Zerbi said, I probably have another. Bottom line is that the multi-billion pound business that we both invest so much time in couldn’t give a brick about what either of us think on this. 😀

Anyhow, I’m absolutely done on it. RDZ is here and I’m right behind him as we try to stay up. Back to the football!

I don't particularly care what RDZ said - his actions in approving the transfer and then playing him are what i am opposed to. Actions speak louder than words here imv.

I think it's encouraging that there has been so much noise around it, even if some of the reaction has been OTT and not something I personally agree with - the more noise the more likely it is that people will think twice about what's morally acceptable. You sweep the actions of scumbags like Mason Greenwood under the carpet and allow them to carry on without repercussions then maybe we try to sign him or other players with that history behind them in the future, maybe the noise here would show the powers that be that it's not gonna fly here.
