Interim manager thread 2.0

Mate of mine, who played sport at a very high level, reckons Klinsmann. Says we need a very quick shot in the arm and he’d provide it and get the stadium rocking. Wouldn’t have been my choice but I see the logic and think he’d be better than Tudor.

We’re like a drunk gambler wandering into a casino at 4am clutching our last £20.

I think it’s inevitable that Tudor leaves today. He was brought in to save us and we lose our first three with him and get carved open repeatedly.

I think we should give the job to the Bodo Glimt manager on a permanent basis. I want us to get Pochettino but really don’t see that happening at the moment. We need to prepare for the future and I think Knutsen has been excellent getting results with players that aren’t seemingly of the same level of quality as their opponents. The only big issue is that he is highly unlikely to have the presence to turn heads and may take a good while to get us playing the way he would want. So it would be more of a long term appointment and would be really want to be a manager in the Championship instead of a manager who is highly praised in the Champions League?!

We'd also need to replace EVERYONE above him with people who know what they're doing, and have the same vision and commitment as him.

I think the worry about Knutsen is that Bodo play good attacking football and can shpck anyone on their day, but they always give up plenty of chances and are open at the back. His tactics would probably get ripped apart like Ange in the PL. But who knows. I have almost lost all hope lol

Unfortunately we have no option other than Dyche. Which will go down terribly with our entitled fans. Which was why he wasn't appointed in the first place.

Honestly can't see us getting out of this death spiral regardless of who is manager.

During the last Champions league game they said he’s had multiple offers but is happy where he is. Family/lifestyle etc.

As much as I think England did well in spite of of him tactically - a horses for courses shout might be Southgate. He gets all of that non football stuff right. And he would likely do the very basic on pitch stuff well. Hopefully there would be a bit of respect from the team.

He’d also change momentum in the media and probably officials (we have zero clout at the moment).

My only concern is he is a bit drab so the players may not react.

Ps. If Tudor does go, it’s a further admission that this leadership group are clueless and have to go aswell.

I think, sadly, he’s here till we drop or stay up. I think the amount of face the board loses replacing him is just too much. Unless they actually go full Maranakis and do it today, he’s here for the full term

Lose face or lose our place in the PL? Audere or not to audere? They’ve got nothing to lose.

I think he stays too. They kept Frank 3mth more than they should

Did anyone see the interview with Les Ferdinand where he was bigging himself and Tim Sherwood up for the job?
Nope.
I mean at this point I would take it and I would start with putting people in their own roles. And then hope for the best. Unfortunately that would mean Drags playing when Rom gets himself banned in the very next game. Play Kinksy. And maybe just throw kids on.

At this point ....we cant get any lower. Other than destroying our goal difference and getting more injuries.

Obviously I'd be hugely intrigued by Klinsmann. Problem with him - and others who have been mentioned - it might give us fans a warm nostalgic glow but I'm just not sure they'd carry that same resonance with the playing squad and getting buy-in from players at training ground is going to be the key.
I think the way out of this is going to be a coach who can get us to play a bit and score goals. Feels like we've had two coaches now who have tried to gaslight the players and fans into thinking the only way we can win is by spamming the ball and playing off second balls and set pieces. The squad has severe limitations but they're much better than they're being coached to play. I think we're more likely to win games 3-2 than 1-0 right now. We 'only' need to win 3 of our remaining games.

For that reason the IDEA of Harry Redknapp is appealing as I think he'd have them believing they were good players and would set them up to get the best out of our attackers...however the reality of someone who's nearly 80 and been out of top level football for nearly 15 years is that the coaching does need to be a bit more nuanced and up to date. Would Ryan Mason provide that working with him?

One thing I noticed last night and that nobody will be able to solve at this point of the season is the huge fitness issues. Our players look slower, even VDV gets beaten for pace these days, when he used to be able to make up for his average positioning. I'm afraid that will be the last nail in our coffin: you can play any system or any tactics, if your guys are slower and weaker than everybody else, it's only going to end one way.

I can't imagine how we allowed that to happen, so maybe I'm wrong on this one and I'm just trying to make sense of the situation.

One thing that gives me a bit of hope is that after the disallowed goal, when we played with 5 mins of intensity we scored.

I think all the talk about 'players are better than being coached' needs to stop. Two seasons of league form shows they are in fact not, the amount of basic errors, techincal and mental quite cleary show the level of the players.

Right now two things are needed;

1. Getting them to play at some sort of intensity with some sort of consistentcy. Even 2nd half regardless of what Palace were doing we looked better by Porro clipping it forward and being more willing to run. We have to play teams around us who are equally as brick, they need to be out run, fought, and pressured.
2. Whether is be Gray, Xavi, even Romero, we have to play someone in centre midfield who can pass the ball forwards. I would lay a lot of our issues on the fact we are unable to progress the ball vertically, Not cause, of Frank or Igor or horseshoes, but because we ain't got a play that will receive the ball, control it and play a forward pass. Wharton in our team yesterday and we'd win. We simply have to find someone who can play in there.

Yeah I agree mate. I absolutely love the idea of Klinsmann riding back into town on his white horse and saving us like 1998. Not sure the picture I have in my head is the same as what would be reality.

Similar with Redknapp. I loved his team but he came in 17 years ago. We aren’t getting that Harry Redknapp and we don’t have that team.
