Igor the Interim

If we take de Zerbi with a relegation clause which allows him to walk away then we are f ucked. Zero incentive for the players to respect him, zero incentive for him to give a s hit.

So yeah, I’d take Allardyce above him, and also above Tudor Mark 2.
Fcuk…if things are really that bad can I throw my hat in the ring then?

- lifelong fan
- watches the PL and knows the squad
- managed a Sunday league team
- does not support sex offenders nor any history of dodgy business dealings
- am under retirement age

Checks all the boxes, right?

If they actually appoint a man named Adolf Hutter to manage a team with a sizeable Jewish support then it will surely then be revealed that this entire season has been one of those pranks Ant and Dec organise on their Saturday night programme.

Yes, unfortunately things are that bad.

Post-Mourinho and Conte, managers have been turning us down for years now, hence why we ended up with Ange and TF; this despite some of our fans labouring under the misapprehension that people would be falling over themselves to come.

Who serious is really going to be interested at this moment?

So, you could do worse then submit your CV. Sounds like you’d be worthy of consideration.

Didn't Slot and/or Ten Hag have an interview with us?

Not sure I agree with @Mikey10's statement though. The manager can be a problem, but there are plenty of quality managers out there who'd be happy to join us IF we had a clear direction as a club.

We offer a lot of money which in itself is already a very strong incentive. Unfortunately:
- Conte's rant, while totally justified, portrayed the club in a very poor light
- The club is having of tough time of stepping out Pochettino's shadow (the interim appointment if proof of that, I think)
- We have zero direction/identity as a club
- Power structure inside the club appears to be... unclear at best
- Up until this season, managers were expected to deliver Champions League qualification and/or a trophy (turned out a trophy wasn't enough, you might say) which is completely unsustainable in this league, with our level of spending/wage structure
- When you sack Mourinho and Conte who - rightly or wrongly are huge names in world football - in quick succession, you can forgive others for thinking twice before taking their chances
- Our squad is nothing to write home about

Turns out, when you mismanage the squad for a decade and kick off a power struggle within the club, you end up at the wrong end of the league table. Who would have thought? It's reached a point where I'm not sure a quality manager would make a difference in the long run. We need to sort ourselves out.

I agree in general with you -- especially the lack of identity. Something I've long loathed about THFC. That said I actually think our current predicament makes us even more appealing to the type of manager we want to appeal to. We don't want a big name on huge wages looking to spend loads of money to win the league/Champions League. That's not who we are and despite the flimflam excuse Levy and Vinai came up with for sacking Ange ("we want to compete on all fronts") it's not possible for us.

Instead, I believe we want an up and coming, progressive manager. Someone who matches our squad: Xavi, Gray, Bergvall, Tel, Odobert, Vuskovic etc. We have a squad with lots of potential, needing a little bit more of the 'right now' player, and absolutely desperate for a coach with an attacking plan and some strong direction, a clear idea of what they want us to be. To be the one who takes us from relegation candidates to back into the top half and then challenging for Champions League places again would appeal to the ego of many coaches out there. They can achieve so much and become a bit of a hero without really needing to do that much.

There needs to be an identity injection desperately and we also IMO need a clear out of some of the battle scars and leadership group that are not actually leading. Romero, Porro and Vic can go IMO, I would be tempted to even include MVDV and start again, give Danso a role FT in the defence and get someone else in, even if that Vusco (although I long suspected he won't play for us ever)

Then build round that, the players you mention and some new additions for experience would be key for me, we also need to start looking at the pathway for youth.

I would take some progressive years of getting that identity and some seasons knocking about mid table as it beds in. I would make Gray captain

So, as I said, then - and yes, those are many of the reasons. 😀

Latest rumours today are that they are considering appointing one of the senior players for the last seven games as they can’t find anyone else “suitable”.

Much as I would like that in some ways (zero excuse for them to blame anyone else any longer) the thought of Romero and VDV shepherding us through the last two months makes me want to weep.

I think a big part of our loss of identity and culture is down to the lack of academy players in the first team squad. Whether or not they are regulars in the starting XI they carry the club’s DNA with them and that can then permeate through the club.

Just look at the lift we all get when Scarlett, Ajayi and Moore all scored in the EL group game last season. Or when Tanganga debuted against Liverpool. Or Winks scoring the last-minute winner against Fulham. Or even a 17-year old emergency right-back coming on late in the CL game this season.

Should Scarlett have been given more playing time this season when he seemed effective in his handful of opportunities? Could we have saved 35 mil in January by bringing Devine and/or Donley back from loan instead of spending it on an ex-Chelsea player who none of us have a particular affinity for? Would that have given the team an extra psychological boost too?

While you can’t say for sure it would make a positive difference, I can say for sure that not having any does coincide with a distinct lack of identity.
