Honduras Prison Fire Kills 272

'Comayagua firefighters' spokesman Josue Garcia said there were "hellish" scenes at the prison and that desperate inmates had rioted in a bid to escape the flames.'

Honduran media reported that there had been a riot in the prison before the fire broke out.

Prison service head Daniel Orellana denied this.

Fire caused riot. Your logic is invalid. Your move.

Do you honestly think Mr. Orellana's statement is true? I'm not saying it's not, but I wouldn't go solely on his word.

The New York Times said:
The cause was not known. Investigators were looking into whether it was started by an inmate or a short circuit. La Tribuna said it may have started during a fight among inmates and that some may have escaped during the blaze.

I still there's a possibility of foul play. The guards couldn't find the right keys to let the prisoners out, or they couldn't find the guard with the right keys...

Whatever the cause, that is still an awful way to go. I'm sure some of them will not be missed on this earth, but I take no happy thoughts from what happened to them.

and how exactly do you conclude that knowing nothing about the crimes the people are locked up?
or would you have EVERY criminal shot as soon as the judges hammer hits down?[/QUOTE]

maybe my comment is being taken out of context, but in my mind, I was only thinking of the evil ruthless criminals, child molesters, murderers, rapists etc have my blessing to be tortured by the fire. Anything that is deemed minor in comparison, such as for assault or theft etc, they did not deserve that.
