Harry Kane MBE

If the is not then we have failed massively, the good chance is that a Kane who has played as much football as he has over the last few years, particularly in Poch high pressing team and with his injuries. I would be amazed if he played to anywhere close the standard he did last season.
Agreed.

Rumours that he is asking for 400k a week to sign a new contract. I would sell him. At that price, it is not worth it.

I don't buy into his 'love' for the club.

I dont buy in to love for the club either, I don't know of anyone that could anymore. However he is worth the 400k a week, we just can't give him a new contract till at least 6 months down the line.

I want him to stay.
I want him to finish his career here.
I want him to break Jimmy Greaves record.
I want him to break Shearers record.

I was gutted when Keane went to Liverpool and for me it ruined his legacy at Spurs.

I love it when you have players like StevieP, Mabs and Ledders - absolute legends and i want that for H.

I realise that’s probably not a popular opinion on here and I get the frustrations of this summer - but look at it this way, we have secured a £150m valued player at Tottenham. Arguably one of the top strikers in the world. With our attacking options, and if the defence stays as solid - we are going to have a decent season.

COYS!

Journos do favours for clubs so that they will keep getting Tit bits. Some of the ‘news’ was agents trying to ruffle Levy’s feathers. But they were amateur. If you’re going to use the press you need more acumen. Telling the world what you want to happen is not going to cut it. You need to be be devious!

I am pleased he is staying, for now at least, although I'm not looking forward to a repeat of the saga next summer. If he gets a pay increase, then it has to come with another year on his contract, especially if true that he got a pay hike last summer. I can't see him getting a release clause, so if he really wants out, he is better off not taking the pay rise and contract extension, and try to take advantage of getting down to the last two years on his contract instead (not that I want him doing that, but it is more honest).
But maybe we can do well enough this year that he will want to stay - that in large part is down to him.
I'll still cheer him, support him and I imagine join in singing for him, but more than a little of the gloss has worn off now and I wonder if it will ever get back to as it used to be?
For me, one thing that doesn't get mentioned much from the Neville interview (understandably, given all the other talking points) was his very clear commitment to country over club. I appreciate that with the Euros on the horizon and as England captain, it was a loaded question to answer, but I would have expected at least some attempt at prevarication.
In fairness, @Danishfurniturelover has long said that Kane prefers playing for England to playing for Tottenham, but that left a bit of sour taste for me.

On further thinking, it might have been hypocritical for him to profess club over country in the very same interview where he tries to kick-start his move away, but still, he said it.

Again, to clarify my opinion on what happened here from the get-go, obviously this is. personal opinion and not fact for any legal beagles...

He was tapped up.
He was told that the bids would come.
He was told to stir the pot gently from his end (Sky interview).
He was further tapped up during Euros.
He was encouraged to set a price via the press.
He has been left wondering WTF his tappers are playing at.
His tappers have left him high and dry, likely telling him one thing but doing another.
His tappers still suggested he string it til the last day of the window because they still felt they could squeeze a deal.
He knows Levy won't budge because his tappers are undervaluing him.
He decided enough is enough and made his statement.

I think the extra week is a grey area, we will never know the full truth there.

I would not be surprised if Paratici has taken him for a meal and pointed out to both him and CK66 how poorly Emirates Marketing Project have behaved towards HIM and how they have fudged HIM around!

I think we all move on now.

Harry Kane, he's one that we own/one of our own.

Great post and I fully agree that this is the likely sequence of events.

I'd really love to know what happened in that week when he came back from hols. As I've said many times, there's a void in the information however lots on here assumed the worst (which should have course be the case)

Would be nice to now finish the window with 2-3 signings and change the narrative around the club

Harry Kane wants £400k a week from Tottenham Hotspur after admitting defeat in bid to leave

Harry Kane has been in talks about an improved contract which he hopes could be worth up to £400,000 a week after admitting defeat in his attempt to leave his current club, Tottenham Hotspur, for Emirates Marketing Project.

The England captain has come to realise that City were not willing to meet Tottenham’s asking price of £150 million but has been seeking a wage to reflect that valuation and one that would put him among the Premier League’s highest-paid players.

Kane is thought to have been given a pay rise when Tottenham refused to allow him to leave last summer, taking him towards £300,000 a week, with bonuses, in a contract that runs until 2024. Kevin De Bruyne, the Emirates Marketing Project midfielder, who earns £385,000 aweek, and Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, on £375,000 a week, are the league’s best-paid players.

Tottenham would only be likely to hand Kane another rise if it were heavily linked with bonuses, including those relating to goals. The forward could also try to insert a release clause if he signed a new contract to enable an exit next summer.

“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success,” the 28-year-old wrote in a Twitter post in which he thanked fans for their support.

An initial bid of £100 million by City was rejected before the Premier League champions told Tottenham that they would be willing to pay £120 million plus add-ons, but Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, has been unwilling to negotiate.

The Times revealed last week that City would have to raise funds by selling Bernardo Silva or Aymeric Laporte if they wanted to raise their bid, but there has been no firm offer for either player at their £50 million asking prices. No City player wanted to move to Tottenham as a makeweight in a deal.
After it became apparent that City would not make an improved offer, Kane conceded that the transfer would not happen and told Nuno Espírito Santo, his Tottenham head coach, yesterday. Kane is expected to make his first start of the season as Spurs try to overturn a 1-0 deficit to Paços de Ferreira and reach the Europa Conference League group stage tonight.

You're only worth what someone is willing to pay.
If city were only willing to pay £75m then that is his value so his wage should reflect that, so thats a pay cut, not a pay rise.

I think Gerrard had a similar episode when he was going to go to Chelsea but the Scousers were still fully on board with him (different breed granted)

Oh he was definitely tapped up. That said, I still don’t agree with how HE behaved. He employs people to give him advice, that doesn’t mean he has to take bad advice and do everything his agent tells him to do ie sit out training or run around doing interviews with Gary Neville. We shouldn’t let Kane off lightly for that. Yes he is our player and it is counter-productive to boo him but a lot of this media storm has been caused by Kane himself by not turning up for training and for releasing the most ambiguous statement ever, four days late, after being absent from training. Yeah sure Charlie Kane has no doubt been brick stirring as have City but Kane doesn’t have to do anything he doesn’t want to do. He’s a 28 year old man.

I would have no issue with giving him a new contract. The top goal scorer and assister in the PL. Pay him in line with the other best paid players, he gets his head down and starts banging them in, win win.

He is a fantastic player and I for one will enjoy watching him for every minute he is with us.

In the end, we are all responsible for our own actions, so Kane needs to own it.

That said, as naïve as his actions were, I don't think anyone expected City to bid £75M for Kane while buying Grealish for £100M in same window, they truly hung him out to dry.

Harry Kane, he's one that we own/one of our own.

The problem with that theory for me steff is what's in it for City?

1. They know Levy from the walker transfer. You won't get anything on the cheap.
2. Destabilise Spurs? We're not a threat to them. They'd be better off unsettling Salah or Pogba
3. Pep admitted they want Kane. They now look a bit silly in public because they've a week to go before deadline day and no sign of a striker they desperately need
4.Weaken Kanes relationship with us so they can go back for him? If they did as you said, they've tinkled off Kane and Levy so that'll make things hard.

I don't get what's in this for City as you've described. You've painted us to be faultless, which I think we pretty much were, and let Kane off the hook which I don't think he deserves.

I'm not sure what's happened here but Kanes behaviour hasn't been good and he doesnt deserve a pay rise or new contract. If I'm Hugo, who is a top class keeper and a world Cup winner and been very loyal to us and I'm not getting a contract and Harry is...well that's an awful message to send.

I think the Kanes have been out of their depth here and that explains their odd handling of the situation. Has Charlie Kane ever negotiated a major transfer before or even a transfer of any kind?
