Former Player Appreciation Thread

This thread now saddens me. I keep thinking we'll be talking about Mabbsy, Hoddle, Ledley and our other past heroes.

I then jump on it and see it's about Lanks.

Adam Smith. Youth product who first joined Bournemouth on loan in 2011 and transferred permanently in 2014 after a total of seven loans. He was with Bournemouth for several promotions and now for their European debut. He didn't make it here but has had a pretty solid career.

At Wednesday's pre-match press conference, defender Adam Smith - the club's longest-serving player after initially joining on loan from Tottenham in 2011 - admitted he would never have imagined captaining the Cherries in Europe.

But there was more to come for Smith. The right-back earned his own piece of history by providing the assist for Bournemouth's first European goal on home soil, with Evanilson heading his cross home late in the first half.

"It's been a long time coming. The fans were up for it, the players were up for it, so we are very happy," Smith told TNT Sports.

"We had a chat with each other and we got a reaction today. That's an AFC [Bournemouth] performance right there."

Since making his move from Tottenham permanent in 2014, Smith has made more than 430 appearances for the Cherries.

In that time, the 35-year-old has helped Bournemouth secure three promotions, two of which have taken them to the Premier League.

When he was replaced by James Hill midway through the second half, the home supporters rose to their feet and chanted Smith's name as he departed the field.

"He's an example to everyone of what hard work looks like and the rewards that you get, even towards the latter stages of your career," added Ward.

"He's extremely professional, and he fully deserves the success he's getting now. Nights like this are what you live for. To walk out captaining that side is emotional and makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck."

We fudged up selling him, so yes. Especially as we have no strikers capable of doing the same.

He's a former player, this is the former player's thread. Get over yourself.
it would make more sense to me if it was about Kane scoring every game rather than Lankshear but everyone should post whatever they want

Have we fudged up or did he want out he made six appearance for us the manager/ club agreed he could go no big deal. we've let much better players leave.

So what you are saying is you are going to continually post when he scores because you have an issue with the club selling him? Like its going to make a difference? What ever makes you happy i suppose.

I'll not post much, if at all about Kane to be honest. When a player goes on strike to try and get a move, I get a little peaved with them and generally lose interest - especially once they have actually gone.

Don't see you posting regularly about any other former player, i suppose you haven't got a bee in your bonnet about others being sold?
I don't think any of the players we have sold in the last 5 years have been a mistake apart from Lankshear.

Are we going to go back and forth ad infinitum?

I thought he played way more than 32 appearances. Would have been more if it wasn't for the Joe Jordan assault
