Yep, the ruling class were and did horrific things. I take no personal responsibility and no one of my generation or below should feel anymore responsible then a similar age German for things that happened in the second world war, before they were born.

It's not the same. The British doing terrible things is factual and undisputed history. Africans being lazy is a lazy stereotype, Jews being money hungry is again a generalised and lazy stereotype. You're not comparing apples to apples.

If someone said the British are evil that would be a comparable example.

Isn't that is what is being implied? Terrible things have been done in the past by groups of people and it's easy to define them by lines drawn on bits of paper, countries aren't to blame it's those in charge who are.
 
I guess my point is ... how are brits viewed compared to the sports washing machine, putin etc .. we have had our dirty hands in all of the above and more

Brits are a people, Putin, the sports washing machine, they're groups in power. It would be more of a like to like to compare the view of Brits and the Russian people, from my view they are both ruled by clams (Putin being a bigger one obviously).

It might be implied but if someone says the British were involved in the transatlantic slave trade for 150 years that's a factual account. It's not a stereotype, as the examples you gave were, that was my issue. It's not apples to apples. Saying the British are evil in general would be the same kind of generalised and lazy stereotype. There was a global slave trade for thousands of years. Every country was involved. That's a factual account.

Yup. Doesn't change that Britain was involved and if someone were to mention that they are being factual. Just like saying Europe in general was involved in the transatlantic slave trade. All factual.

Why are you comparing them? If the British (or American) government owned a club, i could see the angle but as it stands i don't see the relevance.
