Djed Spence

Yeah because Spence is known for his overlapping ability and final ball 🙄
He was excellent in the final third for England and played very adequately when deployed as emergency RW (Everton) and LW (Borussia Dortmund) last season.

I think we haven't seen anywhere near his best in attack. IMO he is an extremely skillful player and if given the opportunity to join the attack more often he would surprise a lot on this board.

How exactly was he excellent for England in the final 3rd? He won 2 pens and one got over turned. What else did he do from an attacking perspective in the World Cup?

His surging runs and overlaps are exactly what he was known for when playing RB before she joined us. You haven't seen it because he's rarely if ever actually played at RB for us.

I'm baffled by those judging his attacking qualities while doing a job for us and covering the LB role on his weaker side. Do you actually expect a right footed RB doing emergency LB cover to be saloming left side attacker?🤣

By all means criticise his attacking quality on the right but at least wait for him to play there and show what he can or can't do first. 🤣🤣🤣

I have an early memory of Spence under Conte. He came on as a sub late in the game and immediately did a great bombing run down the right that got the crowd off their feet.

Conte shut that right down and he wasn’t seen again for ages. Conte made some comments about the importance of learning the system. I watched him closely on his next appearance. His instinct was to run with the ball down the line but he very quickly checked his run around the halfway line and passed it sideways or backwards. I had to laugh. I could be wrong but I believe he was predominantly a wing back when we got him

Gray's a ball playing DM, Byfield is CB and tge other is a schoolboy who looked ok in a half pace fitness run out against some amateurs. None are RB options for next season. Danso would id imagine start ahead of any of them

Danso is nowhere close to a starting right back. His ability in possession is shocking. Can you ever believe that Danso would dribble the ball forward and beat anyone that didn’t have their shoelaces tied together?

I hope we keep Spence. He showed at the WC what a player he can be. Overlaps, crosses, driving into the penalty area at defenders. All the attributes he hasnt really shown for us for whatever reason.
He will be full of confidence too, and of course his defending was excellent.
Unless we get silly money for him we would be daft to sell him now. Keep him at least this season and see how it pans out.

I know I’m going to get lambasted on here for saying this but there is also a case in certain matches and when we want to close things out to play both Porto with Spence on the right. You get the pace, driving runs and defensive recovery of Spence with the crossing, shooting and defence duties of Porto.

Yep, it was literally his major strength before he joined, bombing runs down the right.

We have seen glimpses of it here but without a consistent run its not been evident like it should.

I don’t think anyone will lambast you for a very sensible comment mate.

I truly don't understand the people who actually want to sell our quality depth. RB is probably our best stocked position and people are actively asking to weaken it.

Yes we have fewer games this year and Porro has been very available but people are forgetting he has actually missed games before and that he won't get injured this season. If we sell Spence we will need to replace him so the money made isn't as obvious as some think and no I don't want to see Gray there. I would want an actual quality RB if we are moving Spence on.

Not sure I see people wanting him gone. I do think some fans understand the quid-pro-quo thing though. The player’s stock is high. The player himself may be loose in the saddle for not playing his preferred position. The club are striving to massively improve the forward line.

Put that all together and the club and player might need to part ways.

I think many have bought into this nouveau Spurs of selling for profits being all the rage and everyone is loving it. I think there is a great argument for it but I also think there is a line where you get to and you have to look depth too.

I don't think we need to sell the depth in the back to fund the front, there should be concessions made in other areas before we touch others (including CM and Striker) if we need the money.

Lets not sell Spence and sell some of the other dozen or so players who should be off the rank before him. Lets have serious convos about Madders injuries and potentially upgrading him (if we are serious about success) etc

AM is a tricky one because we have Xavi Kulu Maddison and Gallagher - i think we stick with that group this season and see what it looks like come next summer.

The issue comes though that Xavi is unlikely to be seen much this season, Deki is an unknown and Gallagher who I like is not very creative in the traditional sense. Madders has not started 30 games was 8 years ago. I think that area could def do with some work given the full context.

Maybe like you say its next season, but I worry about it this TBH
