Disciplinary and promotion in the same week.

So last week i had my first ever disciplinary. I would admit if i was in the wrong but any self respecting person would have done what i did irrespective of what position you hold or what your day to day responsibilities are. Even in the disciplinary meeting i said i would do it again and i don't think i was in the wrong. Anyway i got a slap on the wrist and got put on a 6 month probation where i would be "closely watched".

So today i'm called in the office again and the manager tells me that i've been chosen by the higher ups to manage one of there sites. Pay rise and everything but obviously more responsibility. At first i thought it was a joke but i start in 2 weeks. He did say that i shouldn't say anything as it doesn't exactly give the right impression to my colleagues (being disciplined and promoted within a week) but the Director and his Manager said they wanted me to do it. I'm happy because it shows that if you stick to your beliefs and not be a 'yes' man you can still achieve great things.

I meet my team on monday8)
 
One of the girls, joined about five months ago, that I manage complained to my Director about me that I was rude. Basically she cannot accept criticism and is one of those girls that cries at any hint of criticism. Constructive criticism are development points for her and she isnt aware of this and takes things to heart. No one in the team has helped her with her move and showed her the ropes so noticing this I have invested a tonne of time helping her etc.

She took my comments and criticism to heart and complained. I dont care - she is brick at this job and doesnt deserve her status as a senior above a couple of others within the team.

Let her complain - what im angry about is the fact that she cannot acknowledge or appreciate how much I helped her and how much time and effort I put in to help her (when no one else did). I aint gonna apologise and certainly wont buckle down a sit aint my fault she fudgein cries at the drop of a fudgein hat.

So she can fudge off and I will be discussing with my Director how brick she is and she really should be fired. Its her six month probation coming up anyways.

KD congrats on promotion and well done for standing up for yourself.

Got in the office this morning and some bint that has been off ill for 2 weeks said "right your shaving your beard at the weekend".

I have grown a beard this week and had so much abuse from people, pretty much Im the only one with a beard in the office, and I meet clients and Underwriters etc.

Anyway, I said "Your a beardist and Please show me in the employee manual where it says I cannot grow a beard", my boss then said "getting in at 9-31 isnt in the manual either" (I got in at 9-30 bang on).

I then said, "meh im not talking to any of you today", they all went "oooooooooooooh". cnuts. all of them. they have all gone out to lunch together like they always do and never invite me and this other guy, pathetic little fcukers.

Work can be a brick, unfortunately being principled only helps you out in certain situations. I've had to bite my tongue on numerous occasions, but if you actually want to get anywhere its what you have to do unless you go it alone

that's despicable behaviour, i fecking hate people like that.‎

keep repping the beard mate, i've been sporting one for a couple of years now and i'm client facing. ‎that said, it's not an unwieldy beast, the key is to shave the bit on the neck and get the lines right on ‎the cheeks so it looks like a finely crafted beard rather than a couldn't be arsed to shave look

That's what I've done mate, the neck line thing but left the sides a bit as I had a few ingrown hairs which was the reason why I grew a beard so I could cover them up, then thought fcuk this looks good.

However the main floor manager gets back from his 3 month stint in Singapore this week and everyone says he hates beards and I get on really well with him so I don't want to jeopardise that, so it may have to go. 7 day growth and it's pretty long already so can easily do it again but looks like its got to go...

Regarding their lunches they are disgusting . They ring up restaurants and say in a quiet voice "table for 5 please" (we are a team of 7) and then I hear them say "right I'll call u let u know where it is" when they go out in the morning to the insurance market. They put it on company expenses every fcuking time too so it's eating into my bonus and pay rise. 3 /4 times a week they go and to proper London restaurants. It makes me sick and I mentioned it last year saying why do they leave me out, but still nothing.

I could go higher but I think a lot of the teams on my floor do it, however they involve all of their team. My team is so clicky it's beyond belief.

Sad thing is I'm actually well liked on the floor amongst 60 people so know I'd be better off in another team but I specialise in my class of business ad enjoy what i do, just despise 5 of my 6 colleagues, but obviously don't show them that.
 
I was put through a disciplinary a few years back. I didn't get on with my manager, mainly because she was brick at managing (micro-management is all she did). Her boss (who I also worked with) gave me a pay increase not long after for the good work I had done, basically making a mockery of the disciplinary (you're not meant to be able to get one for 6 months - 1 year).

It's a long story but this gist of it is that there are 3 utter ****s in my workplace. One of the guys is fine by himself but when he's with the other guy and this disgusting woman he acts up. I've worked at that company for a little over 2 years now and they've never directed their utter cultish behaviour at me until a few weeks back. They've done various things to other people though (examples include making a 58 year old woman who's a lovely person to work with cry, try and get this rather weird but harmless man fired, and various other things). I've spoken up against them before but when the rest of the workplace are scared to do so (they choose to talk about them but never confront them face to face) it's rather hard.

The woman is the ringleader and she's just disgusting. Decent looking bird but she's one of the few people i know who's actually evil. I know there are people who are misunderstood, i know people who are misled but someone with bad intentions 100% of the time i've never come across. Sadly she's on very friendly terms with my immediate manager (personally i think he's banging the brick out of her but thats just my belief).

Anyway a few weeks back i get an e-mail form one of our contractors. Now this emil is clearly addressed to me but to my amazement it's already been opened and someone has replied to it. The information is totally wrong and it's signed off with my name. Naturally i'm tinkled off and i tell everyone that i want to speak to them at lunchtime (there's about 12 people in my department that had access to my account being that it's not really a personal account). At lunchtime everyone is sitting down and i ask who replied to my mail with the wrong info (i knew it was this bitch or one of her 2 cronies). Nobody says anything. I flat out tell the bitch and her 2 bitch ass cronies that i know it was one of them. They again say fudge all but deny it so i just leave it.

Around a week or so later i go to the kitchen and the bitch is there with 1 of her cronies. This man is making tea for 4 others and one of them suffers from type 2 diabetes. This dirty little slag actually has the audacity to laugh and joke about dropping 3 spoons of sugar in his tea to "see what happens". The guy that suffered from type 2 diabities has a part of the kitchen dedicated to his dietary needs which includes sweetners but this woman was actually trying to convince her crony to do it (and that taco would have done it too). I just say to myself fudge it and give her a verbal battering. I mean i destroyed her and the other guy verbally (i wanted to smack the guy tbh).

Anyway they run to the manager and tell him some twisted version of what happened and i'm called into the office. I admit to most of the verbal assault (i deny offering the guy out after work naturally lol) and say i would do it again and again. He refers to it as Gross misconduct and says i could very well be fired. A few days later he tells me the decision is that i get 6 months probation and nothing else.

Fast forward a week and his line manager and a director inform him that they want me to be the one that manages one of their sites in Vauxhall. Anyway since i wrote that post i've already told colleagues what has happened and made sure the dirty bitch and the 2 pricks heard every word of it.
 
Well done KD, some people don't have any balls (seems like most of your workplace) and you've obviously stood up for what you believe in and confronted these ****s. What I don't understand is, many are scared to confront these people, yet you've done so and others haven't followed you? Strength in numbers. Had 4/5 people had a go at this cow for messing around with someone's diabetes then surely the manager couldn't have given probation to you all?

It's quite simple when you think about it. Survival of the fittest, and those in numbers will usually prosper!

But one person is rarely a bully alone it's when they work together, gutless fcukers.

At the end of the day I work to live and never live to work.

Tbh mate i've come to the conclusion that most people in life care simply about themselves and their family (which is fine) but if they see something bad happening or someone doing wrong they won't say anything unless it's directed at them (which is wrong). Then again i'm still youngish so my mentality is 'fudge it i can easily get another job' whilst most of the workplace are in their 40's and 50's so maybe they see the job as the be all an end all.

I asked a question on here a while back about whether or not being a decent person gets you anywhere in life and it was that bitches attitude that made me ask it.

Even though you have been badly treated kingdawson please do not let it try to change you, i know it is hard. I got screwed over few times when i was younger, i will ot go into it but back then i was a little bit more aggresive and i let people know when they screwed me over, they knew and it cost them.

But years down the line i regreat it, people wanted to steal jobs off me and my work so they made money and got work instead of me. But once i calmed down i found people admired me more and that gets you ahead being admired and respected. Someone else said in this thread about biting the tongue, well i have learnt to do it but i wish i had done it in my 20's.

If you allow yourself to be changed by ****s you will look back in a few years in one of those long nights we all have when we cant sleep and you will regreat the man you have become.

It may sound a bit new age and tossey, but be true to yourself, being able to live in your own skin is one of the life lessons im trying to get across to my son.
 
Superb! I think you're bang-on there mate, and yes, absolutely right to have done what you did. Now, the paranoid man in me would say...

1) Make sure you keep an email record of their behavior.
2) Prepare to be tested.


It sounds too good to be true, and beware, they might well be looking to see if you have anger management issues by placing some stress on your shoulders. I know I know, paranoid, but I'd be very very aware and careful during the coming months mate...

Again, good for you for the behaviour though mate, totally justified...I WILL say, having just read Chich's post I absolutely agree with him on that (you don't want to be consumed by bitterness) but it appears to me that with the tea episode especially, you were absolutely in order. I WOULD say that one way of dealing with your disgust of the lady in this equation is to pity her and view her as pathetic, which in fairness sounds about right!
