Dele Alli

I thought he had a few good touches, including the pass that set Son on a promising run, until the Everton defender somehow managed to catch him up.
But otherwise not as involved/effective as I would have hoped. He's not exactly going to be match sharp given the lack of playing time he's had.
The trouble is there is now one less competition in which he might get that playing time.

Agreed. And seemed to me to be working quite hard, getting back to help out defensively in deeper areas when needed.

With Alli it's those moments of magic that sets him apart. One of those moments not coming with limited time on the pitch and lacking match fitness tells us very little about what will happen going forward imo.

Hopefully Mourinho was happy with his work rate and approach so we'll see more of him going forward.

I think he just plays without that urgency and it seems like he can't be bothered. Maybe I'm wrong.

Just do not think Dele is a JM type player.
I’d love him to get his hair cut, lose the beard and look like a serious footballer again rather than a dodgy porn star

I personally dont think that will help his performances and confidence ... things have moved on from the 70's i agree

Normally i may/would agree with what you say, but this was a chance to shove it back to Jose and he was just strolling around, no real effort at all from him.
That simply isn’t true. He got on the ball a fair bit and I also remember him making the headed clearance in or box from a break Everton made.

From what I could see he worked hard enough.

In a way I see his somewhat understated performance as a positive. He wasn't trying fancy stuff all the time, keeping things simple most of the time then trying the outstanding sparingly when the opportunity is there to make something happen is the way forward for him imo.

Not sure I agree, he needed to bring urgency, he needed to make brick happen (he's good enough), lost the ball, was too slow at times ..

We know he has talent, the problem is I just see no scenario where he replaces anyone in the first 11 now (3 years ago? yes). He and Winks have english tax on them, sell while there is something to get, re-invest in players that can challenge the first 11.

We'll see how things develop I suppose.

Half expecting Ndombele to me moved up again with Sissoko coming in deeper against City for a classic bus parking approach.

Either way, perhaps even in bigger games at some point, or at least hopefully in most games I think Ndombele deeper is the way forward.

That opens up the central attacking midfield position where Ndombele was the clear starter not that long ago. Up for grabs between Lamela, Alli and GLC when back from injury.

Alli can make things happen. I'm guessing part of the issue Mourinho has had with him is trying to make things happen when the space isn't actually there, when the situation is wrong, when the easy option is the right option. The "fancy flicks" he's been criticised for for quite a while now.

That's why I see yesterday as a potential positive step. He got back to help out, and he kept things fairly simple most of the time. Then it's up to him to bring the magic when the opportunity arises, I think he can, but he obviously also needs the right service. Service he didn't get much of after coming on yesterday. Get him that service, get the decision making right, Alli will deliver imo.

Have to say ... Lamela in the past two games owns that position currently. He is showing the urgency and energy the others haven’t

Disagree, his talent is there for sure but his effort last night was really poor. It was the type of game he should have stood out in but he looked like he did not care.

So funny how some post about Mourinho being past it as a manager and that his historic pedigree counts for nothing, even though I'm sure he won a cup or two in his last occupancy... yet want to give dele some sort of pass because of his history for us ...

At the very least it can be said that Mourinhos past it and still won things that any manager would take. Whereas Dele looks shockingly poor, not even average over the last year or so.

He possibly needs a move to revive his career. There is a player there for sure but perhaps his heart isn't in it at spurs.

I'd happy sell and replace rather than having this urge or willingness for him to miraculously turn things around.

He doesn't fit into the current managers plans, and I think it's only fair on all parties that he is moved on.

He has started 1 game all season. He cant be expected to be match fit. Dele is the new Luke Shaw

Agreed, but that's currently, there is definitely a way for Alli to force his way in ahead of Lamela. Unlike with Ndombele who is a force of nature. And Lamela will most likely get injured just as he's hitting firm anyway.
