Dele Alli

Jena's was like Sissoko, an athlete rather than a football player. They look like they have the attributes due to their physical prowess but they lack footballing ability and or understanding.

I can not agree with that ( all about opinions though), imo he had all the ability but for whatever reason he was never consistent with it. Desire may have been lacking( or that is how it looked to me).

hes too selfish for a Jose team, he would rather nutmeg someone than pass a simple ball and when you look behind the player he is trying to nutmeg there is no team mate there anyway its like he just wants to do hi sown thing he wont fit jose system of Kane up top and Son and SB on the sides, prob GLC, TN and a new DM behind I cant see how he will fit in the first 11

Sorry Steff but this is a classic case of outcome bias. Why does it have to lead to a goal to be considered bad play? What if it leads to us being under pressure? And that constant pressure leads to a goal.

Did you ever write any scripts for The Fall And Rise of Reginald Perrin? Because THAT line is just great - super!!!

At who's expense?

Son, SB, Lo Celso, N'dombele look likely to be first choice, add a DM and you have one spot with 5 players going for it, this season's Dele doesn't automatically get a spot for me.

Actually more likely Son/Lucas play off Kane, if you look at what Jose is trying to do, counter attack with pace is clearly the objective and several quicker players in side.

Ndombele? On what basis can you say that realistically right now?* SB we shall see, good player for sure. Sonny is Sonny not Dele. Lo Celso plays a different role.

Lucas instead of Alli off Kane? Jose knows, don't worry...and it will be Alli off Kane because as a pair they are fudging superb!!!!! Dele is smarter, more intelligent player than Lucas. Fact.

*before you or anyone piles on, I think Ndombele is potentially one of the best players in Europe. But he has to show up.

My midfield/forwards? Rotations obviously off these (Ndombele for Winks for example)...Tanganga at CB can ensure such attacking shape.

Kane
Bergwijn Alli Son

Winks Lo Celso

I won't pile on re N'dombele, he needs to get fit, he needs to get professional (mentioned it elsewhere he hasn't had more than 2 seasons at top level and it shows), my view is when there/fit

I think you are envisioning the Dele we saw two seasons ago and for about 3 games this season, I'm not seeing that guy right now

In your lineup for me in long term Winks gets replaced by a some combination of DM/N'dombele, Dele (in current form) fights with Lucas/Son/Alt striker for the alongside Kane role, other options out wide right

Literally no idea what you are on about. I’m an 80s child so I assume this was before my time.

Honestly I don’t think it’s being controversial or unreasonable in saying he hasn’t hit been at his peak for a couple of years, not consistently anyway. Some of that is being played out of position but I really believe his overall game hasn’t improved that much. I’m talking about decision making primarily. Holding on to the ball too long, trying to be too intricate/complicated. I would never want to curb his creative instincts but there has to be a time and a place for the spectacular, some times you just need to keep things simple. I’m not sure why posters get offended when players are critiqued on a football forum. No one is advocating that we sell him for example.

I was always so frustrated with Jenas as a player but it wasn’t ability he lacked, it was the drive. He was genuinely a box to box midfielder, capable of going past players, a good athlete as you say but he could play and score goals from distance - I also remember him scoring a cracking free kick against United but then can’t remember him ever taking another one!
He just seemed to play within himself, taking the safe option when he was capable of so much more.
Even the way his career ended just smacked of phoning it in until he couldn’t pick up a wage and it was no surprise to see him ending up as a pundit rather than a coach.
If anything he’s the opposite of Sissoko, who has made the absolute maximum out of his ability.

Reggie: So come on, Jimmy, who are you going to fight when this balloon of yours goes up?

Jimmy: Forces of anarchy: wreckers of law and order. Communists, Maoists, Trotskyists, neo-Trotskyists, crypto-Trotskyists, union leaders, Communist union leaders, atheists, agnostics, long-haired weirdos, short-haired weirdos, vandals, hooligans, football supporters, namby- pamby probation officers, rapists, papists, papist rapists, foreign surgeons - headshrinkers, who ought to be locked up, Wedgwood Benn, keg bitter, punk rock, glue- sniffers, Play For Today, squatters, Clive Jenkins, Roy Jenkins, Up Jenkins, up everybody's, Chinese restaurants - why do you think Windsor Castle is ringed with Chinese restaurants?

Reggie: You realise the sort of people you're going to attract, don't you Jimmy? Thugs, bully-boys, psychopaths, sacked policemen, security guards, sacked security guards, racialists, Paki-bashers, queer-bashers, Chink-bashers, basher-bashers, anybody-bashers, Rear Admirals, queer Admirals, Vice-Admirals, fascists, neo-fascists, crypto-fascists, loyalists, neo- loyalists, crypto-loyalists.

Jimmy: Do you really think so? I thought support might be difficult.

Doc Morrissey: Do you find you can't finish the crossword like you used to, nasty taste in the mouth in the mornings, can't stop thinking about sex, can't start doing anything about sex, wake up with a sweat in the mornings, keep falling asleep during "Play For Today"?

Reggie: That's extraordinary, Doc! That's exactly how I've been feeling.

Doc Morrissey: So have I. I wonder what it is? Take two aspirins.

I did not rate his footballing ability but I'll accept he could have possibly pushed himself more whereas Sissoko is all effort and no quality. But Jena's I never had him as a midfield general as many wanted him to be, he was just a an athlete with good stamina who was ok with a ball at his feet nothing more.

Fair enough, perhaps I’m saying technically he was decent but perhaps he didn’t see that early pass or positive decision which I guess comes under the parameter of footballing ability opinion. He’s still a million miles ahead of Sissoko footballing wise imo.
Jenas was PFA young player of the year and scored 6 Prem goals for Saudi Sportswashing Machine at 19, never bettered that and this smacks of unfulfilled promise to me.
Also saved his best performances for the Goons, not sure if that’s a positive or negative!

Exactly. When fully motivated, versus the Goons, in the dying seconds, surrounded by 7 foes, he could smash it in the corner from 25 yards.
But he rarely tried / bothered to do that.

See the Tweet from the OS today for Jenas' birthday, some screamers in there.
