Cycling thread

Just put some money on Martin his odds on betfair are way out for a 3 time defending champion.

Interesting no matter who wins.

Well done Wiggins, that came out of nowhere.
I even topped up my bet on Martin when the odds went way out as the GPS times on the course everyone was basing everything on where all over the place.

wow well done to Wiggins, Martin look spent. Maybe that is why Wiggins looked a little subdued in the Tour of Britain because he was holding something back.

Yep lost £50 on Martin but will make it back laying us in our league match after our next Europa League match.

Tinkov offers a €1 million to Contador and his Grand Tour rivals

Russian tries to entice riders to go for the Giro-Tour-Vuelta triple. Oleg Tinkov is ready to offer a €1 million to Alberto Contador and his Grand Tour rivals if they will compete in all three Grand Tours in 2015.

Tinkov launched his Grand Tour triple challenge at the Giro d'Italia presentation in Milan after Contador confirmed that he will target a Giro d'Italia-Tour de France double. Tinkov believes that the best Grand Tour riders in professional cycling should go head to head in the three Grand Tours. He first called on riders to ride all three Grand Tours via Twitter. Now he has backed his offer with a significant cash incentive.

"If Quintana, Froome, Nibali and Contador all agree to ride all three Grand Tours, I'll get Tinkoff Bank to put up €1 million. They can have €250,000 each as an extra incentive. I think it's a good idea," Tinkov told Cyclingnews.

"It's good that Alberto is going for the Giro-Tour double but I think the biggest and best riders should race against each other and ride all three Grand Tours."

No way can anyone ride 3 grand tours and be competitive in them all. The way it is going someone rides the Giro does well and by doing so convinces their team to back them in the tour de france the following season. The Giro though in my opinion the hardest tour to win is seen as showing whether someone has what it takes to win the Tour de france.

The Vuelta is for people who have suffered crashes or poor form earlier in the season or a young up and coming rider to prove his worth, maybe even someone who just did a support role in an earlier grand tour.

It could be possible for someone to try and win in Italy and Spain. But no rider could do all 3 in one year and be competitive in it, not even specialist sprinters or climbers could manage it focusing on just their chosen stages.

Sounds like a gimmick to me.

Contador won Giro and Vuelta in 2008

I know and see what your saying nibbles came close last year. I just think that on the whole cycling is a clean sport now. Just think that if good cyclists target a certain tour they could win it. I mean the best ones will go after Tour De France which means someone who wants a grand tour to their name will target the Giro or the Vuelta and the best guys that can win the Tour would not be able to beat a good rider who spends the whole season targeting the Giro or Vuelta unless they were using some serious banned substances.

the cleaner it gets the more likely a triple tour win imo

you couldnt "prepare" for a all three without getting caught

the last thing I’ll say to the people who don’t believe in cycling, the cynics and the sceptics: I'm sorry for you. I’m sorry that you can’t dream big. I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
