Cristian Romero

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but would we be looking to sign wide players like Savinho if RDZ is planning to play a back three, presumably with wing-backs providing the width?

I won’t say no to a fully fit and motivated Romero. Plus now we have a manager who might speak up when he's unfairly targeted for challenges VVD and Gabriel routinely gets away with unpunished.

We'll we've already spent a huge amount on fee and wages for Van Hecke and Senessi!
This might be a curve ball for the owners :).

Get players in early, pay the fees, then get the selling done later, recoup some money.

It might put the brakes on other deals if THEY thought Romero would be off (or wants to go) and 50-60m was coming their way.

Personally I think I'm settled on him leaving.

Yeah, I had written Romero off as "sold" this summer.
If he stays, that means we have a LOT of centre backs.
If his knee ligament is still sore, that worries me, doesn't sound like it will be fixed in 3 days, sounds more likely to snap.

I saw a quote where Romero said “I knew this could happen to me. I had a little issue there, I felt it again, but in 3 or 4 days I’ll be fine again, so that’s that”.“It’s nothing serious. Keep the head up and I'll come back stronger than before”.

Scaloni confirmed that medical tests on Romero would be conducted between Tuesday and Wednesday.
"We don't know the extent of the issue. It is, of course, something he had already been dealing with," he said.
"Let's hope it's nothing, not just because he is an important player. Even if he isn't there, whoever steps in will do a good job, but it is always better to have everyone available.
"We don't know yet. He'll undergo tests tomorrow or the day after," the coach said in the post-match news conference.
The Tottenham defender was first injured in mid-April and those initial tests done by the club showed an injury to his knee ligament. He subsequently missed the last six games of the Premier League season.
According to reports in Argentina, Romero felt pain in the same knee during Monday's match and will not play vs. Jordan in order to rest a few days.

Why do people think he is going to go so cheaply? I know he is a liability but he is a world cup winner, has signed a new contract recently, is only 28 and was talked about as being the best CB in the world by the world greatest ever player. He is also highly rated in Spain and would be the perfect fit over there. Surely he should be worth £60m+?

When did Maradona say that it would have been before his time surely or do you talk to the dead 😀

Yeh, he should be around that figure TBH 55-60m

Messi saying his teammate is the best defender in the world once will not add a jot of value to the player, or make other clubs view him any differently to how they see him.....

Doesn't seem to be as popular on the market as we/he hoped currently.

The World Cup could change this of course

A £60m fee for a defender is a figure only a few clubs can or are willing to spend. If we assume its a move out of the PL then at that figure really only looking at Barca, Bayern, Real, Athletico and PSG. As it stands it doesn't appear any have interest in him and other than Athletico i don't really see how he fits in to those sides or that they really need him.

A fee more in the £40m world opens him to wider options, including some of the Italian clubs potentially along with possibly a couple of German options. I don't get the impression he is rated as highly outside of Spurs as we think he is.

Surely going by how much we spent on Van Hecke who had less than a year left on his contract tells you the going rate for a CB these days. He is classed as one of our key players and is also our captain. Although i don’t rate him myself, £40m fee is low.
