All of us have made excuses about these players and our owners for far too long. As a fanbase we have been far too accepting of far too many things.

Mike Leigh (who has worked for the club and has strong connections there) on the latest Spurs Show says that Romero has a reputation within the club as a poor trainer and a poor timekeeper.

Palhinha has apparently been a model pro through this season.

All sadly believeable, and part of the reason why we are where we are.

And why I won't lose one wink of sleep worrying about this lot going down, where we would have no option but to cleanse ourselves of a large amount of rot in our players and club as a whole....
 
Doesn't matter

If you have a reputation and know certain tackles are likely to get punished harshly, then don't make those tackles.

That's called in game intelligence.

If he was making goal saving tackles and getting reds, fair enough. But the tackles he gets done for he doesn't have to make.

Yup, our glorious leader who should be leading by example but instead chooses to turn up late to training when the going gets tough… poor old Bissouma must be wondering why he had to miss the Super Cup for the same indiscretion whilst Cuti gets to keep the armband!

I mentioned before, when Brobbey caught Romero late I turned to my dad and said “expect Romero to be carded in the next ten minutes or so for a strong challenge on Brobbey” and sure enough…

Whether or not the tackle was a foul for some, or whether it was then yellow worthy, in many ways it doesn’t matter. He plays with a very predictable mindset - wind him up a bit, or tackle him hard and for how ever long it takes him to find you, he’s more interested in clattering you back than playing a smart game where he leads the team to a victory. People say he’s got a reputation with ref’s, in the most part it’s because he does stupid, predictable things.

Even the United Red, regardless of if it’s a red, he makes himself look silly by calling out the board over having no players available and then gets suspended in the next game. He’s a good footballer, but he doesn’t have the mindset of a leader or captain and is a poor choice for one.

Problem is I'm not sure Romero would even be aware of his comments, I wouldn't have even seen Tobys comments if not seen them on here.

The platform is far greater for ex United players, whenever they say something it's headline news. They have them as pundits every week on Sky, we don't. Neville with his podcast, Butt and Scholes with theirs. All we have is your very own 'The game is about glory' :D....
 
None of it matters really. He has been a pantomime villain from the get-go, and remained the convenient target for press and supporters. Levy, VV, Lange and especially Frank should buy him dinners because he is taking most of the hits. He has not been perfect obviously, but the narrative build/narrative is very 2025/26!

I do think Romero is often unfairly criticised and the narratives ate already set but what you say about his reckless selection is a fair point. It's not often he gets a yellow for a tackle that needs to be made or made as forcefully as he might make it.

I've never seen him booked for a tackle where I've said 'fair enough, you've taken one for the team there'

The KMI (Key Match Incidents) panel found (to the surprise of precisely no-one else who saw it) that Brobbey ought to have had a second yellow. The panel consists of 5 members—3 former players/coaches, 1 Premier League rep and 1 PGMOL rep, with decisions based on a simple majority. This one was 3-2, with no breakdown, so the reader is left to guess who the 2 were. PGMOL just shrug their shoulders and carry on with business as usual, basically.

He should’ve been off before this incident for the foul on Romero and elbow on Porro.
 
I will say this about Romero...IF he has been allowed to dictate TO coaches/managers, and not been coached/managed properly- then that is an enormous issue.
No player should ever be bigger than the club. Sadly, as a club, we have previous for such attitudes.
