The Irish racehorse owners who had a squabble with Fergie over a horse. Fergie felt a million pound horse was a gift he was entitled to, the owners understandably thought the horse they owned belonged to them. A few tantrums later, we met the Glazers.

It's staggering how much they've taken from the club. A brilliant business move, one that could only work with United. A similar attempt almost bankrupted Liverpool, so not many clubs would survive such predation. Must be the most expensive horse in history.

Yet the football authorities focus on owners who put money into football. Put a billion into football and you are the enemy, take it out and you're part of the establishment. While clearly these new owners skew the fairness of the league, this has never been a serious concern for the authorities, e.g. where clubs like Ajax and Benfica are collateral damage to a richer Champions League.

The headline seems to overstate the situation, but he has shown interest in buying a PL club (Chelsea) and he is a United supporter.

I want to buy Manchester United, says Jim Ratcliffe

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to buy a stake in Manchester United, with a view to taking full control if the Glazers welcome new investment.

A spokesman for the Ineos billionaire confirmed that Ratcliffe would welcome the chance to talk to the club’s American owners. “If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer,” the spokesman said.

Ineos was reacting to a Bloomberg story which claims the Glazers are considering selling a minority stake in the club, with the news prompting a sharp rise in the share price even as the team struggles at the bottom of the Premier League table after a disastrous start to the Erik ten Hag era.

Ratcliffe tends to seek full control of the businesses he buys, and has the means to do so, but would be willing to discuss a minority holding with the Glazers if it was part of a plan to take control at a later date.

“If something like this was possible, we would be interested in talking with a view to long-term ownership,” the spokesman added.

From a footballing standpoint no they haven't. But the glazers making money? That plan is working perfectly. Last summer when they bought ronaldo it massively boosted their share price so the glazers sold 8% of their ownership. All the rumours of a takeover has boosted it again from this time last week. They're making an absolute fortune and will make even more if someone buys them.

Whoever buys them will have an absolute mess to sort out though.
 
Spent more money than CIty in the last ten years and have hardly even been in the CL let alone competing. What a mess

not only without owner investment, but with owners taking money out

morally, there are much worse clubs, the attitude of the fans stinks too, demanding new owners who invest their own money

what the Glazers have shown, is that United run correctly would be an absolute monster, if Levy was in charge they would be unstoppable
 
They need to accept that they are going to have to lower their expectations, get in the correct players and get rid of all the problem players and that it will take time. They need to bring in young hungry players and mix it with experienced professionals and take a hit in the league rankings for 2 or 3 years.

Fan arrogance meant they went for Pogba and an old Ronaldo over the building the base again

If you look at Fergies teams he has a blend of the workers and the class, the Parks, Fletchers and Nevilles balanced the other star, and it was accepted but without Fergies that belief in a process has been replaced with "give us star names regardless of the bad fit"
