British housing depresses me

I am not happy with the house we are in, only been in it about a year. But it is not to my tastes despite a lot of work done on it.

Problem is I do not think the housing stock in this country is very good quality. I worked on building sites starting at the end of the 70's through to the early noughties. Yesterday I went with a friend who still works in construction onto a recent building site. I could not believe that these new houses being built were in the same exact style as 30 years ago but it seems the is even less space. They seem smaller to me.

Anyway I came across this and thought it was a good link for people to read.

I would love to build my own house, but getting the wife on board would be tougher then negotiating with levy. It is not that I want something big and grand but something with more light, maybe and attrium or indoor garden. Doubt I will ever convince her.:(

I agree about houses getting smaller.

That's the dream for us, buying a plot of land in NZ and building from scratch. It's quite a popular thing to do over there and in Aus.

want to move somewhere like this
like the idea of turning the house upside down, and how often does someone actually use the roof space.
