Another shooting in Murica

Except that it reverts your feed from your carefully curated 'following' to their 'for you' hate chamber, pretty much on a daily basis
Not any more. It used to. I haven't noticed that happening in the last year. And in any case I would just immediately switch to "for you".

I find Twitter a fantastic resource, all my favourite things in one place, constantly giving me the latest news/articles/interest.

Musk's finger is still on the scale.

I've never heard of E&D, but my company has been talking about DE&I for years.
I work in London, owned by a group in Manchester, ultimately owned by a US company.
But I don't think that makes me "an imported culture warrior"?!
Sometimes you sound like a real berk.

In terms of your "unfair advantages" there are definitely times when """minorities""" are slightly favoured for positions, to help balance things out e.g. if everyone in a company is white/male/over 50/etc then they would benefit from some different voices from the 'other' side. To assist the company's growth via hearing a different perspective.

Earlier today I read that Spurs had a new CCO and automatically assumed it would be a man, until I scrolled down and saw a woman's name. That is prejudice right there, I'm not ashamed to admit. It is good that our C-suite will not be entirely white/male/over 50/etc.
Good post. (imo apart from the name calling aimed at GB).

Agreed that there are such "unfair" advantages for "minorities" in some cases. Here in Norway that sometimes swings the other way too, men being encouraged to apply for jobs in female dominated fields in job postings. I think those things are good. Some diversity is a good thing in most workplaces at least. Many more unfair disadvantages for minorities still.

Those "prejudices" exist in all of us I think. Good that you're not ashamed. I have them to for sure. But also good to notice imo. For some reason that kind of thing too is controversial.

Have they ever done any experiments around this? Eg everyone apply for a job without identifying their age, race, sex etc...then attend interviews dressed in a boiler suit and a bag over their head. With a voice vocoder to standardise everyones speech.

Basically.....boiling it down to the solitary factor it should be....ie the best person for the job.

Without remembering quite where I've heard of institutions doing interviews "blind", not quite boiler suit and voice decoder, but without seeing each other.

Think there's some research on those things in interview situations too, but I haven't read up on that and probably more difficult to get super valid results and measurements. The resume/application research is easier and rather clear. Obviously not 100% of that last translate to an interview situation, but would be surprising if there aren't similar effects there.

Yes it is very difficult to see a way through this. The right goosestep in perfect sync on any topic they think will advance their power. The billions that have already been poured into junk thinktanks, buying local radio stations, sponsoring of bro pocasts, working the media 'refs', politics from the pulpit, etc means the deluge of information is overwhelming. And this is only growing in the US with so-called MSM bending the knee now.

But the left is not without its own advantages. Namely, truth and reality are on their side, and people don't like what the right is selling when it comes down it. The polling shows that. Although breakthrough moments are rare, they happen and point to better way to counter the rights media narrative. You do not need to copy the right's MO, it is too late for that now. You need to be smarter and build your base in an alternative way. The Meidas network is a great example, as is the Mamdami campaign in NYC. But instead of learning the lessons from these successes democratic leadership just bricks on them.
Truth and reality are on our side they say, as they rage against the conspiracy theories, stereotyping and narratives put out by "the right", by putting out conspiracy theories, stereotypes and narratives about the right being driven by the uber rich who have bought the media and brainwashed everyone.....

A lot of companies are blanking out the names etc on applications to avoid bias. AI is also starting to be used.
It's a bit harder to remove bias in interviews that are face to face.

Let’s remember Charlie Kirk by his best work.

Black people
“Happening all the time in urban America, prowling Blacks go around for fun to go target white people, that’s a fact. It’s happening more and more.”

Black pilots
“If I see a Black pilot, I’m gonna be like, ’Boy, I hope he’s qualified.’”

Black women
“They're coming out, and they're saying, 'I'm only here because of affirmative action.' Yeah, we know. You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person's slot to go be taken somewhat seriously."

Civil rights
“We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the mid-1960s.”

Death penalty
"[Death penalties] should be public, should be quick, should be televised… I think at a certain age, it’s an initiation… At what age should you start to see public executions?"

Democrats
“The Democrat Party supports everything that GHod hates.”

Empathy
"I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made up new age term that does a lot of damage."

Feminism
“Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You're not in charge."

Gay people
“You might want to crack open that Bible of yours. In a lesser referenced part of the same part of scripture, is in Leviticus 18 is that, ‘thou shalt lay with another man shall be stoned to death.’ Just sayin’! So Miss Rachel, you quote Leviticus 19… the chapter before affirms GHod’s perfect law when it comes to sexual matters.”

George Floyd
“This guy was a scumbag.”

Great Replacement Theory
“It's not a Great Replacement Theory, it's a Great Replacement Reality. Just this year, 3.6 million foreigners will invade America. 10-15 million will enter by the end of Joe Biden's term. Each will probably have 3-5 kids on average while native born Americans have 1.5 per couple. You are being replaced, by design.”

Guns
“It’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment.”

Jews
“Jewish donors have been the number one funding mechanism of radical open-border, neoliberal, quasi-Marxist policies, cultural institutions and nonprofits. This is a beast created by secular Jews and now it’s coming for Jews, and they're like, ‘What on Earth happened?’ And it's not just the colleges. It's the nonprofits, it's the movies, it's Hollywood, it's all of it.”

Martin Luther King Jr.
“MLK was awful. He's not a good person. He said one good thing he actually didn't believe.”

Muslims
“They aren’t even hiding their intentions. Muslims plan to conquer Europe by demographic replacement. Will Europe wake up in time?”

Palestine
“I don’t think the place exists.”

Transgender people
“You’re an abomination to GHod.”

That's a lot of ways to say I hate everyone who isn't me.

A Spurs fan?
Well yes. I wasn’t with the home fans!
(My “look” didn’t have anything to do with it really. His mates were just laughing at him).

I remember posting here when I was out in Bilbao. The evening after the game I had dinner and then started walking towards where I had heard Spurs fans singing. As I got closer the song had changed to “oh Tommy Tommy….’ So I did a swift 180.
A football club is no different to any other grouping in society. There will be a wide range of views and opinions. I wish we didn’t have those amongst us but we do.

Thought your husband might have taken you as a treat ;-)

I bet you had to cook your own dinner tonight.

Yes, we unfortunately do have our own pond life element.
