I think it was a mistake. Especially with a young squad.

But you have no real idea whether he made the call on Vio though. The timings are not official, no one really knows.

I'm just pointing out a fact. We had a good set piece coach and got rid of them. I think that was a mistake. That is my opinion. If you feel differently fine. No need to get so defensive about it.

In all seriousness, I do agree with you that with time he will likely get it right assuming he does make certain changes over time. I just think you go a bit OTT at times with those offering shall we say an 'alternative' view to yours when it comes to dear Ange....

I understand I'm robust* in my opinions, and I'm not naive enough to think everything is rosy. But I genuinely think everything comes with some big asterisks: the first season in a drastically different direction, no Harry Kane, brick loads of injuries, the most interrupted and inconsistent match schedule I can remember. Also it's very much in line with what most of us would have hoped for (~5th) and Ange's first seasons usually turn out something like this.

That doesn't mean that there are not things worth discussing, but I just think people go overboard with their reactions to what is happening -- and yes, I probably go overboard with my reactions to that.

But Ange has chosen his method for set pieces, as far as we know it's largely handled by Mason and Jedinak in training. Two young coaches who will likely be improving their processes alongside the young squad we have.

There's no reason to believe it won't get better.

I've hardly seen any games in the last 5 weeks. Sri lanka doesn't have sports bars and neither does kas. So no i haven't been niggling away. I haven't really commented on the games/tactics etc...

I've always said he needspatience. Klopp got it, pep got it, arteta seriously got it.

By the end of next season if there is no improvement. Or if there is a total colapse like ramos. Then we might to act sooner.

But otherwise we're ahead of where many would have predicted at the beginning of the season. A fit on form maddison would also be massive.

Comparisons to Poch surely also has to take into account the quality of the best teams in the league at that time compared to now.

It takes time. Like it did for Poch, Arteta, Klopp. There's so much to be optimistic and happy about. Some of the football we're playing is breathtaking.

We're still short on missing pieces in the starting 11, then also the squad. Like for those other managers that have needed time.

If we're still seeing those same weaknesses hurting us with a similar frequency a year from now I'll start getting concerned.

The job Ange has done so far has been incredibly impressive. Losing Kane, completely changing the way we play, integrating a lot of new players, quite a few younger players without PL experience.

I think he'll continue to do very impressive work. Why wouldn't he with another summer transfer window, another preseason, players more used to his system.

Pretty much my take on what/where we are at this time. Too much sense in that for some though especially those who have this obsession with Levy and the board [ yes Dubai] i am looking at you. We are still in the running for a Euro ride next year and there were a lot of fans who were doubting that we would finish higher then mid-table at best this season.

Its a combo of things.

Zonal defending with no cover for Vicario.
Keeper coaching for strength and coming for crosses.
Desire to get to the ball first etc.

Zonal works well with a strong aerial keeper. Cant help thinking that a mixed approach here will help.

It needs to be dealth with and whilst I understand Ange saying its not why we lost and we need to play better generally. Its also a Major concern and why we are shipping goals. Open play we are doing ok. Set pieces are killing us.

In thinking things out in a more abstract way, the next manager to succeed at the club will be the one that's given the time to do so, it's highly unlikely as a club or given the wider footballing landscape that we achieve things year one with anyone. Now that may not be Ange we don't know, but if we are ever going to reach that promised land its going to be with patience, planning and improvements year on year.

We have to play our part in that, we can't lay heavy on the managers because of what's come before them, it's certainly not Ange fault that the clubs had such a bad 5 years, in fact it makes his job harder to unpick the mess on several levels.

If dynasty clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal have needed time to build and clubs with money and higher status are struggling like Chelsea and United, its idiotic to think we are year one fix.

Don't disagree with this, but who really is gunning for Anges head? Far as I see save for the odd person in the stadium or on here that likes to whinge for the sake of it, is anyone really going in on Ange? All I ever see is people discuss current weaknesses, nothing beyond that. I don't believe anyone was expecting us to be invincible by now, or at any point so why can't we discuss what the problems are without it being taken as people being impatient?

Not one person has stated they want him gone, just highlighting areas for improvement. For months now the performances have been average at best. Why does discussing the negatives have to mean people aren't prepared to wait and see what happens? Shall we just all pretend performances have been great and just ignore the blatantly obvious ie our defensive play needs to improve, and so does our creativity? When we were riding high at the top of the league many were talking about the title, that was more OTT than anything being spoken about now....

Read my other post above, defensive set pieces got better at Celtic season 2.. But it's fruitless comparing niche individual metrics so closely in my opinion.

Ultimately goals scored, games won and points accrued will be the most important measure.
