Look my position on this war is that it shouldn't be happening. Thats my strong view. I have a view that I am less forthright in which is that I question how strong the desire to be liberated. But that's not going to happen either way, so I still maintain this war should not be happening.

This article seems to have been dictated to the NYT by JD Vance in a desperate attempt to distance himself from Trump and the war just as everything goes to brick, just before he fudged off to Hungary to try and swing the election for a Putinist. Moderately interesting read, though, as an explainer of how we got here and why nobody was able to stop it.

They are. I've a good mate who is Iranian and so are my next door neighbours. They've all got close family in Tehran. They've had no word from them at all (all comms are out) for 5 or 6 weeks, so no idea if they are alive or have been bombed. Its horrendous

I would be careful to read more into this than these two grifters sensing that distancing themselves from Trump is the right 'career' move. The enemy of thy enemy, and all that, but these two care only for themselves. They are a major reason why Trump is there in the first place.
