    American politics

It's always been the role of federal agencies to act under the control of the President (with a little from both houses). This is not a constitutional problem, nor is it (as many would wish) a legal one - it's an electoral issue. This is the normal flow of power through the normal routes. The...

Yeah, very little has changed for me at all in the 35 or so years I've been visiting. But I am fully aware that I'm incredibly unlikely to see any change from hotels, golf courses, fishing boats, nice restaurants etc. I've always been happy to tip well when served in a restaurant. But I went...

    Putin & Russia

It is that part. Trump's not getting it either way. Zelensky already told him he's not using it as collateral and Putin won't give it to him.

Maybe. But at least most of the country remains safe and Putin goes back in his tiny box.

In today's episode of Mr Bean Goes to Court..... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/11/25/jury-trials-scrapped-most-crimes-lammy-murder-rape-backlog/ Every time I think I couldn't possibly have a lower view of his (lack of) intellect, he goes and does something more stupid than even he has...

Yep, spent 3 weeks with the family on the East Coast over half term. Tipping's got a bit silly now hasn't it?

I think Ukraine would settle without the land but with NATO membership.

Even Trump's not dumb enough to think he can become a dictator in the US. He can't change the constitution without a supermajority and there's no way he's getting that.

Neither can become dictators as they have the checks and balances of a democracy to stop them. Of course you know that, but sometimes it's easier to parrot the screeching lunatics on social media, right?

I'd say removing dictators should be a moral imperative of any advanced nation - at least those that can be removed. Xi Jingping might be a little tough, but for each one removed, the world is better by one dictator.

That and to try and nip in the bud the burgeoning friendships it has with China and Russia.

    Putin & Russia

It really doesn't. The deal that's been put to Ukraine is total capitulation. Zelensky should counter with the offer that Russia can lease the Donbas region but Ukraine keeps the mining rights, has NATO membership and can reverse their nuclear disarmament.

Good. That's precisely what I want. I only want parties to promise the things they will actually do.

Pretty much every public figure says what they don't mean on a regular basis. That's the nature of having everything you say scrutinised and being asked difficult questions all day long. He was quite clear about the clarification.

The most competent party during a boom would be something like Blair's late 90s party. NBut that party could never govern during a financial crisis. Different parties have different competencies. It would make sense to be able to change government when the landscape has such life altering...

I understand, of course, that's not doing what I thought it was. I'd say the difference between being one of the architects of something like the holocaust and being a strong supporter of it who meets with with and encourages those carrying it out is a fairly small one. I'm fairly sure...

Not just me, pretty much everyone who doesn't get their information from Al Jazeera. Interesting seeing what it's surrounded by too.

I'm not editing or censoring anything. But if the wrong person reads that and I can't delete my logs fast enough, he could be in trouble.

Comparing Israel's leadership to Hitler. It's considered hate speech in the UK and has been prosecuted fairly recently I believe.
