American politics

Just as simple, as he needs some media training because he, of course, knows exactly what is coming. The comparison to Burnham was how he has adapted over time and matured. I still wouldn't trust him with a bargepole but then I have little trust for most of them. The 'In America' bit is because this sort of outburst and bheaviour has been normalised in America over the last decade with all the name calling, cries of fake news, attacks on the press etc. We see in equal measures the polarisation and division that has been created in America. Veiled questions about his name and ethnicity should be hugely beneficial, handled well but instead the response was insular and even slightly jingoistic. Yes the Dem party who gave America Biden, when they/we needed anything but Biden.

I didn’t like his victory speech either. We need a move away from aggressive triumphalism, not a doubling down on as it as normal, as you say.

He's had plenty.
This was a new experience for a relatively 'new' politician/spokesperson (he's not been on the international stage before). Iagree he needs to learn, but honestly, I think it's naive to think he needs media training when he's had it already (again, could do with learning from this specific moment).

Got it. I think he'll do so much faster. He has to. He's got a 'brown name'.

Got it. 'Trust' is indeed hard to find in that landscape.

Never forget, the true architect of the acceptance of Trumpism was Farage, who designed the campaign which led to the action that started this belief amongst the tosseratti that extreme populism could work in the mainstream. I think you're slipping into the 'yanks' thing. I get it, there is certainly a different culture in the US, but I think the only true purveyors have been the Trumpian Republicans. I don't believe they're reflective of America as a whole. Thankfully the midterms have hopefully shown that to the world??? With regards to polarisation and division, that's sadly everywhere. I agree the orange man is the loudest in driving, but it's everywhere...

I don't care who you are, or how measured you are, there's only so many times (especially during a new run in new spotlights) that you can have your ethnicity targeted before you'll likely snap. Trust me. He will absolutely have to learn and be cooler, but I disagree with your judgement of it TBH. As for Biden, yes, easy to say in hindsight but who was there to win the vote and break Trump's first cycle? Who would you have nominated? I think the biggest issue was letting him stick around too long! That change should've been made earlier IMO.
Good conversation...

I'll be back to you when I don't misspell his name LOL (Hakeen!)...he strikes me as someone who might be able to bridge the divide without selling out. Who knows, we shall see...

Anyone I know or follow in media that would, as I perceive, closely align with your political views, absolutely hates him. But maybe what you view as bridging the divide they see as selling out. But general perception is that he’s just another Pelosi/Schumer figure that will talk a big game with the woke stuff but any meaningful policy that helps people on mass like a Medicare for all won’t push for.

I have to agree with you Steff. This snap was very much out of character for El Sayed. I was watching him closely on the election trail, as they had highlighted his race as a key one for flipping the Senate. The GOP ran a filthy, disgusting, bigoted race. One of the worst I have seen, but El Sayed was pitch-perfect in the way he handled it and more often flipped the script on his attackers to make his own points. I watched him on 'Morning Joe' yesterday, and he commands the screen when he talks. This guy doesn't need media training - he needs to give it.

I think you're absolutely right in that overview and assertion; it tallies up with criticisms friends of mine have. I think it is going to be important to have someone who can bridge the divide whilst the more deeply progressive members of the Dems get their engines purring. Let's see though, maybe those friends are right?!

I wonder the direction of America for the next two years?

There is a lot on the USs plate.
But with Trump neutered, I feel he will just lose interest.

It's a vital time span. People will expect pump prices to plummet, groceries to be cheaper and all wars to end instantly, and if they don't, the Dems could be (wrongly) blamed because people forget the President still holds veto power and the Republicans can foster obstruction. Progression is the key, with careful and repeat-strategy messaging reminding people how they got to the dark place at all.

Obstruction on both sides. It's a stalemate. And Trump will simply get bored when he's not able to do as he likes.

There are just too many similarities in that 'style' and as we have seen why give your enemies ammunition if you don't have to. The issue with such deep polarisation is that the 'parties' slip so far to each extreme in thought, word and deed (delete where appropriate) that they end up in similar positions albeit ideally with different policies and values.

Perhaps he heard a British accent, saw a bald man and assumed he was going to be wearing Stone Island? ;) Just be more Obama is my message.

If they just show even a genuine effort to improve people’s lives they will win handily in 2028. If it’s just Trump impeachments and “woke stuff” they will hand back power.

Ha, get the badge in cos it's kicking off LOL (maybe Sayed should get himself some for specific UK pressers!)...We're in agreement on the principles of what you're saying mate. All I'm pointing out is that this was somewhat of an anomaly for Sayed, a 'new' experience, that the full context was not shown and that he absolutely needs to learn from it. I think he will.

Agreed.
In fact, chasing impeachments would be a mistake right now. Even though they would be valid, they'd knacker the dems. Equally, there has to be a very disciplined pathway to holding the protagonists to accountability by law. It's a vital balancing act and one which, if done correctly, could well see the Dems set their table for years to come.
