Brazil are playing Japan right now. Their lineup makes me sad. Richarlison, Igor Jesus on the bench and Martinelli starting up front! Where are all the great strikers???

Martinelli scored a very good goal tbf....more rest for Richarlison, hopefully.

You have a good point re strikers. Hopefully coaches like Frank mean that strikers are back to being all the rage soon and we see more 2 up toop formations.
Probably also more likely you can have a solid career as a midfielder or defender these days if you are a Brazilian...

It's happening. The Athletic have done some podcasts, and probably written a few articles as well, on the more direct and physical style replacing Pep-ball and how so much revolves around set pieces. Set piece goals now make up a larger percentage of goals scored, but the total number of goals is down. It seems the focus on getting set piece opportunities is actually impacting chance creation from open play.

Well that's depressing

Richarlison came on in the 75th minute, with Brazil down 3-2 having given up a 2-0 lead. He had a couple of chances at the end, but nothing really of note -- one header that was just too high for him to get over. Enjoyable game to watch, huge win for Japan.

Big performance from Japan in the 2nd half. Brazil's travel and it being a friendly might have played a part in their collapse as well.

Japanese TV is calling it "an historic win"

I saw some of that first half, including Martinelli's second goal, and i honestly didn't see that coming.
Oh well. Just wish Gabrel and his big goofy teeth had been playing during that collapse so his neck could have been wound in a bit...
